Junior News

On Monday 10th December LSARRC Juniors had their annual indoor athletics competition against Kirkham Grammar Junior School.

Every athlete took part in the speed bounce and there were some excellent individual scores from Oscar Gilbey, Ted Thompson, Angus Chandler, Charlie Kells, Sophie Tate, Keira Lowe, Clemmie Tierney and Leoma Gill who all did at least 50 bounces in 20 seconds, which put Lytham into the lead. They then took part in long jump with a win from Morgan Pritchard, triple jump and high jump with a win for Kiera or javelin. Next were the 4, 3, 2 and 1 lap races. Some of the Lytham athletes are younger than the Kirkham children and a lack of boys meant some girls competed in the boys’ events.  Despite this they performed incredibly well and achieved some excellent placings in the races. Final event of the competition was the obstacle relay in which all the children took part.  They worked well as a team and it was lovely to see everyone encouraging each other. The results were close; Kirkham won the girls’ competition and Lytham the boys. Thank you go to the hard-working coaches from Lytham and Kirkham. Every athlete took part in 5 events in an hour and judging from the smiles everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks, must also go to the parents for their support.
On Saturday 15th December three Lytham junior athletes took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun with 13 year old Sophie Bohannon first of the Lytham juniors home.  On a very windy day Sophie finished in a very creditable time of 20:32 for 13th place overall and comfortably first in her age group.  Ben Gregson also ran well to finish in 17th place with a time of 21:49 with10 year old Finlay Hughes 27th in 23:33 both also finishing first in their age categories.
