Juniors and coaches at North West Counties Road Relays

In a busy week for Lytham St Annes Road Runners, the highlight was undoubtedly the North West Counties Road Relays held at Delamere Forest in Cheshire on Saturday.  Lytham entered seven teams, two senior men’s, one senior woman’s and four junior teams (a best ever turn out for the flourishing Lytham junior section).

First race was the under 11 boys and girls racing together over a 3 legs of 1.6km each.  George Denye was on the first leg for Lytham boys and finished in second place with a time 6:06 the fourth best time of the day in the under 11 boys race.  Morgan Pritchard ran the second leg in 6:52 with 8 year old Eric Wrigley in his first race for the club bringing the team home in 7th place overall and 2nd Lancashire team.  Amara Thorpe ran the first leg for the under 11 girls finishing in 7:34 (2nd Lancashire team) handing over to Jessica Ramsden who competed the course in 7:47 unfortunately a late injury to the 3rd leg runner meant the team was incomplete. The under 13 girls were next to race for Lytham.  Sophie Bohannon ran the first leg and despite taking a fall in the crowded start and competing with girls up to 3 years her senior finished the 3.2km course in 7th place overall and 2nd from Lancashire recording a time of 14:24 (the 8th quickest time of the day from 97 competitors).  Rebecca Tate (18:40) and Sydney Ramsden (16:21) brought the team home in 24th place overall and 4th Lancashire team.  Final junior team for Lytham was the under 15 girls’ team of Laura Bremner (16:27), Lucie Bohannon (18:17) and Hollie Anderson (19:13) all making their debut for the club and each running a 3.2km lap of the lake finished 23rd overall and 4th Lancashire team. A great turnout from Lytham juniors and some good performances.

Both the men’s and women’s race was advertised as 6.4km per leg but was nearer 7km.  The women’s race was over 3 legs and Lytham’s senior women’s team of Mel Koth (31:11), Louisa Ruman (35:37) and Sylvia Gittins (42:22) all ran well to finish in 59th position overall and 12th Lancashire team.  The men’s race was over 4 legs of the same 2 lap course and Lytham had two teams. The A team was led off by Chris McCarthy  who finished the 2 lap course in 25:00,  Second leg runner Ross McKelvie finished in 25:57 with 3rd and 4th leg runners Tom Howarth (26:42) and Neil Tate (27:43) bringing the team home in 34th place overall  and 8th Lancashire team in a total time of 1:45:22.   The B team of Terry Hellings (30:24), Richard Storey (31:29), Greg Oulton (36:57) and Graham Webster (28:45) finished 70th  team overall and 13th Lancashire team.

Mel Koth returned to Delamere Forest on Sunday for the tough Mondane Trail half marathon a hilly course with several streams to negotiate.  Mel ran well to finish 55th of 219, 5th female and 3rd FV40.

Nine Lytham members made it to the Lytham parkrun with Neil Baytun-Roberts first Lytham member home in 20:01 for 10th place.  Charlie Wiltshire, (66th in 26:22), Freddie Wiltshire (108th in 30:33) and Pam Binns (110th in 30:40) were all making their parkrun debut with Pam setting a new VW70 record for  the Lytham parkrun.  Other Lytham finishers were Gerry Browne (34thin 23:19), Sue Hawitt (43rd in 24:43), Graham Young (78th in 27:59), Sarah Bradshaw who ran a new pb of 29:19 for 93rd place and Jeremy McCandless (104th in 30:20).  Ian Tate ran in the Warrington parkrun taking 25th place in a new pb of 21:07.

Wednesday was the seventh and final race in the inter club road race series hosted by Red Rose
Road Runners and run in and around Worden Park, Leyland.  Nineteen Lytham made trip for the 4.3m race and Joe Greenwood first home for Lytham in 24:59 for 7th place.  Chris McCarthy was next in 12th place in 25:54 closely followed by Ross McKelvie (18th, 26:12).  Graham Webster (58th, 4th MV60 in 29:01), Terry Hellings (86th, 7th MV60 in 30:42)) and Roy Stevens (131st, 10th MV60in 33:56) made up the vet 60 team and finished 3rd team in the Vet 60 category.  Other Lytham finishers were Thomas Howarth (28th, 27:07), Michelle Hook (81st and 9th female in 30:34), Ian Tate (91st, 30:46), Melanie Koth (99th, 31:50), Richard Storey (118th, 32:58),  Colin Laidlaw (145th, 34:38> Greg Oulton (168th, 36:39), Jeremy McCandless (198th, 29:53), Pat Bullen (215th, 42:39), Ruth Bye (225th, 44:52), Sarah Bradshaw (233rd, 45:39), Sarah Bagshaw (240th, 48:06) and Dawn Lock (247th, 53:10).

New member Kirsten Burnett headed to the North East to join Mo Farah and over 40,000 other athletes to take part in the Great North Run, Kirsten finished in 2h 22m 20s for 23329 place from 42,000 finishers.

Roy Stevens and Sue Hawitt

Two Lytham athletes, Roy Stephens and Sue Hawitt ventured to Lancaster on Sunday 4th to compete in the Golden Ball 20 mile race.  Roy finished in 33rd place with a time of 2:48:30 and Sue in 3:17:07 for 56th place.  Both are preparing for Autumn marathons Roy Stevens an old hand at marathons will tackle Dublin while first time marathon runner Sue Hawitt will toe the line at Chester marathon.

Richard Storey opted for UKFast Salford City 10k and was the sole LSARRC representative.  The race uses a flat course around Salford Quays starting and finishing just outside the BBC building at Media City and passing the Old Trafford football stadium along route. It's also popular, with this year's event attracting just under 3000 runners. Conditions were good for fast times with the first 97 finishers all going sub 40 minutes. The race was won by Mohammad Aburezeq of Altrincham & District AC in 30:03. Richard had a good run, recording his fastest 10k time for a number of years to finish in 265th position with a time of 43:46.

Saturday was the 38th Lytham Hall parkrun and Lytham were well represented with 14 members taking part and many more marshalling.  Two Lytham athletes achieved personal best times.  Sarah Bagshaw (a graduate from the Lytham beginners group) finished in 31:35 (135th) knocking nearly 40 seconds off her previous best with Karen Lanigan finishing in 29:50 (107th) also improving on her previous best by 40 seconds.  First home for Lytham was Ross Mcelvie in 7th place with a time of 18:33. Lytham also took 8th and 9th positions with Neil Tate (18:46) and Chris McCarthy (18:56).  Other Lytham finishers were Alan Elstone ((21:22, 22nd), Terry Hellings (21:26, 23rd), Gerry Browne (22:10, 31st), 10 year old Morgan Pritchard running and his regular pacemaker were both timed at 23:36 for 43rd and 44th places, Graham Young 28:00(88th),  Gillian Oliver 29:08 (101st), Sarah Bradshaw (31:26 (131st) and Lorna Cragg 29:0 (195th).

Meanwhile Mel Koth took part in the Lakeland Trails Keswick 15k.  Bad weather meant the course had to be changed for safety reasons and the 15k race ended up as 16.5k with an extra 100m of climbing.  Mel, an experienced athlete with many tough races under her belt (including several marathons) said this was one of the toughest races she had ever done.  Underfoot conditions were very wet with deep mud Mel was pleased to finish unscathed in 108th place in a time off 1:38:57 (unlike several athletes forced to retire with broken bones).

The following day 10 year old George Denye and 8 year old Eric Wrigley were fyling the Lytham flag at the Preston junior 2k parkrun.  George finished in 2nd place in a time of 7:59 only being beaten by Preston athlete Joseph Gaughan 4 years his senior.  Eric ran very well to finish in 6th place with a personal best time of 9:29.

Wednesday saw five Lytham members head to Parbold for the last in this year’s series of Harrock Hill fell races.  Joe Greenwood was first home for Lytham in a time of 36:08 for 8th place picking up one of the traditional prizes on offer at Harrock Hill – a box of fresh fruit and vegetables.  Terry Hellings was next home in 46:33 for 94th place followed by Debbie Cooper (50:50, 134th), Greg Oulton (56:40, 178th) closely followed by Pam Hardman (56:57, 180th).   This was also the final race in the club fell racing championship leaving Greg Oulton and Julia Rolfe as the club fell racing champions.

Local Olympian Helen Clitheroe and GB international pole vaulter Max Eaves were guests at this week’s Lytham parkrun.  Helen started the event and both Helen and Max went on to take part in the 5k run.  Lytham were well represented with Neil Tate first home in 18:48th for 10th place with Joanna Goorney 1st lady in 19:55 for 13th place. 10 year old Morgan Pritchard ran a pb time of 23:00 for 49th place with his regular pacemaker Graham Webster immediately behind.  Other Lytham results were Greg Oulton (25:21. 85th), Jeremy McCandless (26:36, 104th), 8 year old Eric Wrigley (26:49, 109th), Bob Clough (29:30, 149th), Gillian Oliver (29:48, 155th),  Sarah Bagshaw (32:50, 189th) with 11 year old  Rebecca Tate and her younger sister Sophie acting as sweep and finishing in 39:34.

Saturday evening saw the first Blackpool Illuminations 5k & 10k events, previously known as the Hilton 10k. Four members of the club headed down for the races out of a total of 780 runners across the 2 races, in near perfect running conditions with no wind - an unusually lucky occurrence for a Blackpool race!

Claire England and Ross McKelvie entered the 5k, while Colin Laidlaw and Michelle Hook ran the 10k race. It was a great night for the club results wise, with Ross coming second place overall in 17:37 and Claire winning her age category in 23:32. Great effort from both!
In the 10k race on a undulating course (for the second half!), Michelle achieved a personal best of 43:48 coming 6th female overall, and Colin came home in 48:13 and achieved 2nd place for his age category.

The medal meeting of the Mid Lancs. track and field league took place at Leigh Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon with senior lady Rachael Wignall in her first season for Lytham the club’s only representative.  Rachael competed in the long jump (5th, 2.60m), shot (4th, 4.41m) and discus (6th, 12.67m).

Saturday afternoon saw Greg Oulton as the only Lytham member brave enough to take on the challenge of the Chipping fell race a tough 7.75 mile race with 1800 feet of climbing.

On Thursday 22 athletes (including 7 first timers) took part in the LSARRC monthly handicap. Sarah Bagshaw (36:55), a graduate from the Lytham beginners group, was first home in the competition proper but was beaten to the winning post by fellow beginners group graduate Sarah Bradshaw (36:20), a testament to the success of the Lytham beginners group.

Julia Rolfe at Chorley Inter Club

Chorley AC were the hosts for the latest inter club race, based in the grounds of Astley Hall in Chorley on 10th August, this is not only one of the most scenic of the inter-club road races but one of the toughest, with two unforgiving long steady climbs.

The unrelenting rain made it unsteady underfoot in places, but helped some athletes to faster times on the undulating 4.8 mile course. Despite running 85 miles in training in the previous few days, Thomas Howarth led the Lytham team finishing in fifteenth place, with a time of 29:36, knocking 10 seconds off his previous years’ time..

There were good team performances by Lytham’s female vet 40 ladies of  Joanna Gourney (finishing first lady overall), Melanie Koth, Debbie Cooper, (who managed to beat her time last year by a staggering three minutes), Julia Rolfe and Pam Binns, all helping to place Lytham female vets 40 in third place.

The men’s vet 60 team did equally as well, finishing third with a great effort by Graham Webster, Terry Hellings who still had plenty in the tank for a sprint finish at the end and Colin Laidlaw.

The next Inter Club Road Race is the last one for 2016, hosted at Worden Park in Leyland in September.

Last Saturday saw Lytham Road Runners stage their second running club ‘Takeover Day’ of the Lytham Parkrun.  Numbers were strong as Preston Parkrun had been cancelled with 222 runners taking part.  The Takeover event was a chance for Lytham Road Runners to promote the club whilst staging the 35th Lytham Parkrun.  Many of the members were volunteering by marshalling or acting as pacemakers, but LSARRC still managed to field 25 athletes.   Jo Goorney was 1st home for Lytham , 1st lady and 9th overall in a time of 20.01.   Andy Draper paced Lytham junior George Denye to 14th in 21.19 with senior Andy immediately behind.  10 year old Morgan Pritchard ran with his regular pacemaker Graham Webster finishing in 50th and 51st place respectively.  10 year old junior girl Amara Thorpe knocked over 3 minutes off her pb to finish in 26.04 for 134th place.  10 year old Jessica Ramsden (108th, 27.55) and senior Des Heron (69th, 25.06) also ran pb times. Other Lytham athletes were Neil Tate (41st, 23.01), Michelle Hook incorporating parkrun as part of a longer training run (59th, 24.10), juniors Frances Morrison (70th, 25.07) , Sydney Ramsden (74th, 25.14), Eric Wrigley (85th, 26.00), Jessica Ramsden (108th, 27.55), Clemmie Tierney (130th, 29.00), Rebecca Tate (133rd, 29.03) and Sophie Tate acting as sweep (221st, 44.25), Als Everest in her first parkrun (82nd, 25.53), Louisa Denye (109th, 27.56), Graham Young (115th, 28.14), Alan Elstone (131st, 29.01) and Sue Hawitt (138th, 29.10) both on pace making duties and returning from a long term injury Bob Clough (144th, 29.43).

Not one to miss an opportunity to race Graham Webster headed to the Catforth 5k Saturday evening for his second 5k race of the day.  Graham finished in 19.57 for 31st place and 2nd MV60.  First home for Lytham was Chris McCarthy in 17.16 for 7th with Andy Draper not far behind in 17.23 for 7th and 9th places respectively.  Also representing Lytham were 41 00:21:23 271 Storey Richard (41st, 21.23), Claire England (50th, 22.58) and Greg Oulton (72nd, 25.47).

Sunday saw Greg Oulton heading off to Penrith for the Lowther Lakeland Trail Half Marathon.  A tough trail race with 1650 feet of climbing and including fording the Lowther river.  Greg finished in 2:27:10.

Caldervale Supper run took place on Thursday night with 111 runners. The 4 mile undulating course from Caldervale Village Hall attracted quite a few club members.  Neil Tate was first home for the club in 5th place in 23:15 closely followed by his younger brother Alex in 23:24.  Richard Storey was 22nd in 27:13, Ian Tate was 28th in 28:17, Claire England was 38th in 30:11, Alex Everest was 43rd in 30:43, Pam Hardman was 51st in 31:34, Sue Hawitt was 64th in 33:15, Jeremy McCandless was 68th in 33:38 and Hannah McCandless was 71st in 34:23.

Also on Thursday night was the short but sharp Bull Hill race, with 1100 feet of climb over 5.5 miles.  Organised by Radcliffe AC, the race starts in Hawkshaw.  First home was Danny Hope of Horwich RMI in 35:34.  Joe Greenwood had a good run to finish in 16th place in 41:41 whilst Greg Oulton was 152 in 1:00:17.  There were 201 finishers.

Greg Oulton was back out on the fells on Saturday afternoon along with Pam Hardman this time.  They head off to Warton Crag Fell Race near Carnforth for the 5.8 mile course with 183m of ascent over Warton Crag and Deepdale Woods. 1st finisher was Tom Cornthwaite of Northumberland Fell Runners by nearly 2 minutes in 37:03.  Greg was 61st 60:00 whilst Pam was 63rd in 61:53.

On Sunday the 17th Fiona Geldard, Graham Webster and Terry Hellings headed to the Olympic Park in London and joined 11,000 other competitors to take part in the Great Newham 10k. Olympic gold medallist and local athlete Christine Ohuruogo started the run which then looped around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park before giving runners the opportunity to enter the Olympic  Stadium, run on the track and cross the finish line where, amongst others, Mo Farah, Jess Ennis and Usain Bolt won gold in 2012. First back for Lytham was Graham in 212th place with a time of 42:21, Terry, running just a mile from where he grew up, was next in 44.43 for 378th place with Fiona Geldard finishing in 1756th with a time of 60.12.

Windmill Half Marathon also took place on Sunday morning.  Starting from Fairhaven Lake, the 2 lap course headed up to Lytham twice.  The race attracted quite a number of LSARRC athletes amongst the 517 finishers.

Steve Ashton

Steve Ashton became an Ironman on Sunday after finishing the gruelling Bolton UK Ironman triathlon.  He completed the course in 15:57:56 (2.4 mile swim 1:23:46, 112 mile bike 7:53:28, 26.2 mile run 6:20:04).

The 31st Lytham Hall parkrun took place on Saturday morning with a total of 189 runners.  First finisher this week was Jeremy Ladyman of Valley Striders in a time of 17:30.  10 year old Sophie Bohannon had an excellent first ever parkrun to finish in 22nd place with a time of 22:13 and another 10 year old having a great run was Eric Wrigley who knocked over a minute of his PB to finish in 58th place with 24:39..  The Tate family were out in force with Neil accompanying one of his daughters, 10 year old Sophie whilst his other daughter, Rebecca accompanied her mum Annette. in her first ever parkrun.

Julia Rolfe took in parkrun whilst in Poland last week.  She ran the Krakow parkrun on 9th  July.  She took 25 minutes to complete the flat 5k course in very warm conditions.  She found it a friendly group of 85 runners and was also 1st vet 50.

St Annes Carnival 5k

The main event of the week for Lytham St Annes RRC Carnival 5k and 1500m fun run on Sunday. Lytham juniors represented the club very well in the 1500 with 11 year old boy Louis Eunson taking 1st place in 5:39 and 10 year old Sophie Bohannon in her first race for the club 3rd overall and first girl in 5:43 both beating older more experienced athletes. Other Lytham results were George Denye (4th in 5:46), Charlie Ormerod (5th in 6:01), Morgan Pritchard (7th in 6:13), Laura Bremner (9th in 6:19), Francis Morrison (10th in 6:28), Rebecca Tate (11th in 6:30), Sydney Ramsden (12th in 6:42), Jennifer Hayes (14th in 6:48), Lucy Bohannon (15th in 6:48), Hebe Tierney 18th in 7:03), Amara Thorpe (19th in 7:10), Clemmie Tierney (20th in 7:12), Charlotte Simms (22nd in 7:19), Ruby Simms (26th in 7:26), Eric Wrigley (27th in 7:26), Jessica Ramsden (30th in 7:30), Hollie Anderson (31st in 7:41), Sophie Tate (32nd in 7:58), Charlie Stephenson (35th in 35:08), Ethan Currie (47tg in 8:57) and 4 year old Sebastien Koth 67th in 10:20.

St Annes Carnival 1500m Fun Run

The Carnival 5k also proved a successful event for Lytham with 3 men in the top 10 (Thomas Howarth, 5th in 18:36, Neil Tate, 6th in 18:41 and Ross McElvie, 8th in 18:46) ensuring the team prize. Other Lytham finishers for Lytham were Mark Selby (15th in 20:00), Alan Elstone (21st in 21:01), Dave Dunn (27th in 22:03), Claire England (28th in 23:16 and 1st FV50), Steve Quarmby (41st in 23:22), Roy Stephens (45th in 23:50), Des Heron (46th in 23:55), Sue Hawitt (50th in 24:26), Steve Tate (54th in 25:18)Pam Hardman (55th in 25:25), Maria Tierney (72nd in 28:17), Rachael Wignall (119th in 29:20), James Whitworth (135th in 29:57) and Nicola Mason (114th in 39:09). Prizes were presented by the Carnival Queen at the Lord Derby.

St Annes Carnival 1500m Fun Run

Just 4 members made it to the 30th Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday with Chris McCarthy first home for Lytham taking 8th place in 19:00. 10 year old Morgan Pritchard finished in a pb time of 23:02 in 33rd place with Sue Samme and Terry Hellings in 34th and 35th both recording 23:07, Maria Tierney and Karen Lanigan both ran pb times of 27:53 and 30:30 for 87th and 114th places respectively.

20 Barriers Fell Race

The 20 Barriers Fell Race from Carnforth on Tuesday night was chosen as the 3rd race in the Inter Club Fell Race and as a result there was a good turnout from LSARRC. After last year's problems with the course being sabotaged and runners going the wrong way, there were no such problems this year and every thing ran smoothly. The course is a great introduction to off-road running with a mixture of running along the canal, over fields and along gravel tracks and covers a distance of just over 5 miles with 500 foot of ascent. With 208 finishers, Chris Arthur from Bowland Fell Runners was the clear winner by over 2 minutes in 31:08. Chris McCarthy had an excellent run to finish 5th in 34:37 whilst Joanna Goorney was 1st lady in 20th place in 38:03. Neil Tate was 26th in 38:22. Next home was Richard Storey in 97th place in 46:05, Debbie Cooper was 105th in 46:58, Claire England was 113th in 48:27, Sue Hawitt was 126th in 50:45, Greg Oulton was 134th in 51:23, Karen Lanigen was 187th in 59:42 and Dawn Lock was 207th in 72:13.

The Junior Presentation Evening was held on Thursday night at Lytham YMCA, proved very popular and Lytham’s most successful with over 70 juniors, parents and coaches attending, Events started off with an hour of games for the juniors finishing with a juniors versus coaches relay which was won by the juniors. The presentation then followed with food afterwards provided by the Refuel Cafe Bar. 10 year old Morgan Pritchard was the winner of the Coaches Cup awarded not solely for achievement but to the athlete who, in the opinion of the coaches, has shown the most dedication and takes account of attendance, effort, attitude to fellow athletes as well as coaches. Other awards were – handicap winner Amara Thorpe, U11 girls XC Sydney Ramsden, U13 girls XC Rebecca Tate, U11 boys XC Louis Eunson (runner up George Denye), U13 boys XC Simon Holt, bronze XC medals awarded to U11 girls Charlotte Thompson, Jessica Ramsden and Keira Van Bogeruen and U11 boy Morgan Pritchard. Athlete of the year award for Thursday group was Harry Fellows, Tuesday’s award went to Sophie Bohannon and Monday’s was shared by sisters Hebe and Cleme Tierney

Junior prize winners

Felicity Wolohan did the Ladies Forest Park 5km in Warrington on Wednesday 6th finishing in 6th position with a time of 21 minutes.

A number of club members were back out again on the fells on Thursday night for the Tockholes Evening Fell Race which takes in Darwen Tower. First home on the 9.4 km course with 310m of ascent was Nick Leigh of Horwich RMI in 35:19. Lytham had 2 top ten finishers with Joe Greenwood in 6th with 39:13and Chris McCarthy in 10th with 41:13. Greg Oulton was 58th in 1:01:38 aand Jeremy McCandless was 60th in 1:06:47. There were 62 finishers.

Joanna Goorney headed over to Sheffield for the weekend, judging at the British Bouldering Championships. Whilst there, she took in the Sheffield Hallam parkrun from Endcliffe Park. The parkrun was celebrating its 6th anniversary and to celebrate, the course was run in reverse, a novel idea except with the large numbers (586 runners), it made the start quite slow with most of the first mile on narrow pavement. Joanna was 2nd lady and 44th overall.

The fourth fixture in the Mid Lancs Track and Field league took place on a windy but dry Sat 2nd July at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Lancaster.

Lytham’s sole representative on the track was the versatile under 13 boy Simon Holt. Simon's first event was the 800m and in conditions not conducive to good times he performed well in a field of 15 to finish in a time of 2m 48.2s taking 3rd place in division and picking up 4 points for the club. Simon’s next event on the track was the 200m where he finished in 3rd of 11 in 30.8s and 2nd in division 2 for a further 5 points. Simon transferred his attention to the field events competing in the shot where he achieved a distance of 6.69m finishing 4th of 11 and 2nd in division 2 for a further 5 points.

Mid Lancs Track and Field, Lancaster

Rachael Wignall was Lytham’s only senior woman and in her first season competing at track and field for Lytham performed well. Rachael took 1st place in division 2 of the senior woman’s long jump with a jump of 3.02m earning 7 points. Rachael also picked up 5 points in the shot for her 2nd place in division 2 with a distance of 5.48m and 4 points in the discus with a distance of 14.29m finishing 3rd in division 2.

Jeremy McCandless was first up for the senior men in the hammer picking up 7 points for 1st place in division 2 with a distance of 13.99m. Jeremy was joined by Greg Oulton in the shot achieving distances of 6.26m and 5.59m picking up 2 and 1 points respectively for 5th and 6th place in division 2.  Greg also competed in the discus finishing 5th in division 2 with a distance of 12.94m earning 2 points and the javelin again finishing 5th in division 2 with a distance of 13.13m.

Chris  McCarthy ran the Lostock Hall Carnival 5k on Saturday lunchtime.  Dave Rigby of Salford Harriers fresh from his victory at the Freckleton Half Marathon a couple of weeks won by nearly a minute in 15:35.  Chris finished in 4th place in 17:41 out of 66 runners.

Saturday evening saw the second race of three in the Catforth Canter 5k Race Series. The race was won by Jason Parker of Preston Harriers in 16:25 with 72 finishers.  Richard Storey was LSARRC's sole representative finishing in 41st place in 21:55.

Lytham Hall parkrun

The 29th Lytham Hall parkrun took place on Saturday morning in bright but windy conditions.  Finishing first again was Paul Muller of Horwich RMI Harriers in 17:47 whilst Lytham's Felicity Wolohan was the first lady finisher in 14th place and 20:54.  10 year old George Denye running in his first parkrun had an outstanding run to finish in 11th place in a time of 20:18.  There were also a number of PBs for LSARRC athletes including Neil Bayntun-Roberts who was 10th in 20:17, Claire England who was 27th and 4th lady in 23:06,  junior Sydney Ramsden whowas 47th in 24:50 and Greg Outlon who was 53rd in 25:09.  There were 176 finishers.

Roy Steven ran the St Peters parkrun in Sydney Park, St Peters, Sydney,Australia for the 3rd week in succession in beautiful sunshine.  Hopefully this will be the last time because he is hoping his daughter will come home next year.  He got another PB for this course, which has a mega hill, in 23.32 and his fastest 5k this year.  He finished 81st out of 283 finishers.

Thursday night saw the Club's monthly handicap race, the third in this year's series using the summer course of 4.35 miles.  It was a wet, wet evening with the course disrupted by road works also but nevertheless a close race ensued.  Two newcomers were welcomed to the handicap; Steve, yet another of the Tate family, who ran an excellent veteran's time and Joanne Cain who was the quickest lady.

Another excellent well attended Jacob's Join was enjoyed afterwards back at the Club's headquarters at Lytham YMCA.

23rd - 26th June saw the Europe Corporate Games take place in Liverpool in which companies, businesses and other social sector services compete in various sports from poker to dragonboat racing, swimming to football.  On the Saturday, Graham Webster ran as a guest competitor for CSC business in the 5k at Ormskirk University winning a silver medal over an undulating course in 20:13 for V60 category.  2 hours later, he ran in the 4 x 1 mile relay leg bringing his team to finish 5th overall in a time of 6:10.
