LSARRC News 26th February 2019

Graham Webster shines at the English Masters AC indoor athletic championships and Terry Hellings runs an impressive 10K at Oulton Park.

LSARRC at Stanley Park 10k

The English Masters AC held their inter area indoor athletic championships at Lee Valley Athletic Centre, London this weekend. This event attracts some of the best veteran athletes (anyone over 35) in England.  Lytham's Graham Webster was representing Northern Masters AC.  Webster's first race was the M60 800m where he finished 5th in a time of 2;42.92.  Webster also competed in the M60 3000m where he finished 11th in a time of 12:02.71

Also, over the weekend Terry Hellings and Greg Oulton made their way through the fog to Oulton Park in Cheshire to run around the motorcycling race track.

Terry chose the 10k, finishing in 44:37, just 7 seconds outside club diamond standard for a Vet 65. He was first V60+, finishing 26th overall.

Greg Oulton on home turf!

Greg Oulton chose the half marathon, finishing 180th in 1:58:30, his fastest time since setting a pb back in April 2015 and his 3rd fastest time ever.

Running around the 2.2m track, Terry had to complete just under 3 laps and Greg had to complete 6. With heavy fog clouding the ground the entire race it was impossible to gauge where you were on the course, see most of the other runners or take in any scenery, but it did mean the damp air kept them cool and there was no sun beating down to sap their energy. A slightly lumpy course, there was a short, sharp shock of a killer climb right at the end of each lap to slow them, with plenty other climbs elsewhere.

As usual several club runners attended parkruns. The Cuerden Valley parkrun was attended by Julie Wiseman, Sue Henry and Michelle Sheridan who all ran well.  At the knocknacarra parkrun G Browne tan 25:36.   At the Lytham parkrun Paul Veevers impressed coming 1st in a time of 18:04, with Andrew Draper in 3rd in 18:48.  Michelle Hook was 2nd female in 20:42, and Darran Ames finished the course in 21:10 for 15th.  Kev Murray was 38th in 23:12, other runners included, Jennifer Hill 23:50, Jason Sheridan 24:02, Adrian Sargent 26:21, Kirsten Burnett 28:18, Bob Clough 28:30, Susan Hawitt 28:52, Claire England 28:53, Pamela Binns 29:04, Sylvia Gittins 30:13, Graham Young 32:44 and Jeremy McCandless 34:54
