LSARRC members at Lytham Hall 5k - Left to right: Julia Rolfe, Dawn Bloor, Pamela Hardman, James Whitworth, Neil Tate, Joe Greenwood, Willie Richmond, Graham Webster, Wade Agar and Ella Moulding |
As might be expected with
a race on their doorstep, Lytham St. Annes Road Runners were out in good
numbers at the Lytham Hall 5K. Fourteen
including two from the Junior Section were competing and several more had come
to shout on friends.
Mild sunshine and the lovely autumnal surroundings of Lytham
Hall made this an attractive race. It
was also a gainful one for the Club with members taking away one overall race
prize and four age group prizes.
Ella Moulding, third woman |
Youngest Lytham runner Ella Moulding, in one of her first
road races, beat many much older runners to take the overall third women's
prize. Moulding, just 13 years old, revealed
real future potential with an under 20.00 minute finish in 19:23 and 24th
place, just 43 seconds behind seasoned winner Caroline Betmead of BWFAC.
Men's age category prizes went to Graham Webster, 20th in
19:12, first MV60 and well clear of the next in his age group and Willie
Richmond, MV50, 37th in 20:32.
Pam Hardman celebrated her birthday with a win in the FV55 |
Wade Agar, second MJ ahead of Alex Wiggins |
The Club's other junior runner was Wade Agar, who was 2nd Junior
Man in very good PB of 24:00, 67th. Alex
Wiggins was 69th in 24:05 and Julia Rolfe, FV50, 85th in 25:49. Potential LSARRC runner Austin Burrows
finished a promising 56th in 22:25
Other Lytham members ranged
further afield. Simon Denye and Louisa
Ruman ran the Congleton Half Marathon.
It's a hard Half Marathon with undulating route that is rarely flat and
tests competitors with a demanding climb in the twelve mile. Denye, MV40, finished 35th in a field of 500 in
1:23:21 and Ruman, FV35, with an impressive improvement, knocked a full six
minutes from her previous best with 1:56:14 for 367th place. A day earlier Greg Oulton travelled to the
Saddleworth Edges Fell Race for this 13km race with 350m of climb. Saddleworth Moor provided testing conditions
with steep climbs and a variety of obstacles and under-foot conditions which
took their toll on competitors with Oulton himself, slowed by a tumble and a
stop to aid an injured competitor, finishing 78th in 1:45:42.
