The big event in the north west was the Great Manchester 10k Run on Sunday but on Saturday, the juniors had their chance in the Junior Great Manchester Run 2016.  The outstanding performance of the day was from George Denye who finished 2nd in the boys 9-10 category in a time of 8:45.  Sydney Ramsden also had an excellent run in the girls 11-12 category finishing 18th in 10.  Younger sister, Jessica Ramsden ran in the mini race where she finished 6th

Mel Koth ran in the Great Manchester 10k and, in a race won by multiple Olympic gold medallist, world champion and world record holder Kenenisa Bekele, Koth finished in 2679th place with a time of 47:35

There were 526 finishers in the hilly Brathay Windermere Marathon on Sunday mornings.  In warm conditions, the race was won by Scott Harrington of Otley by over 11 minutes in a time of 2:36:33.  Tom Howarth was the club's sole representative finding the conditions tough.  He finished in 33rd place in 3:20:56 after completing the first half in about 1:26 but slowed in the second.

Luckily the rain just held off for the 24th Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning.  Two first timers to the course were first male and first female finishers of the 174 runners.  Steven Henderson of Sale Harriers was the first male finisher in 17:15 whilst Jennifer Rich was the first female in 6th place in 18:22.  Chris McCarthy was 2nd finisher in a PB of 17:38 whilst Joanna Goorney was 2nd female and 7th overall in a PB time of 19:35 closely followed by Ross McKelvie in 8th in 19:39.  There were also superb PBs for Mark Selby breaking the elusive 20 minute barrier in 10th place with 19: 45 and Gerry Browne going under 23 minutes for the first time with 22:56 in 26th place.  Barbara Holmes acted as a pacer for the run for anyone aiming for 26 minutes and did a pretty impressive job finishing in 25:51!
