LSARRC New 31st October 2017


LSARRC at Fairclough 5
Lytham St Annes Road Runners had a very successful trip to Thornton on Sunday 29th for the Fairclough 5, a rural five mile race finishing in Stanah Country Park.  Lytham had three men in the first seven with Mike Toft, third in 28:29, Paul Veevers, fifth in 29.08 and Neil Tate, ninth in 29:35 to comfortably take the men’s team prize.

Lytham women were not to be outdone by the men with Sue Samme (30th and 4th lady in 34:29), Kirsten Burnett (53rd and 10th lady in 40:46) and Julia Rolfe (60th and 2nd FV55 in 42:20) taking the women’s team prize. 

Running her first race for 3 years, GB international Sue Samme also took the FV50 first prize, comfortably achieving a club diamond standard time. In doing so she smashed the FV50 club record at this distance, beating the previous one by over three minutes. This means that Sue now holds the club five-mile FV35, FV40, FV45 and FV50 records as well as several others over different distances.

Graham Webster comfortably took the MV65 prize finishing in 29th place overall in 34:05.  Also flying the Lytham flag were Terry Hellings (34th and 2nd MV60 in 36:07), Adrian Sargent (47thin 39:28), Rob Parker (62nd in 42:43), Greg Oulton (70th in 43:52) and Dawn Lock (100th in 94:26).

In the accompanying Fairclough One Mile Family fun run, ten year old Eric Wrigley was Lytham's only representative, running well to finish ninth in a time of 7:45.

On Saturday Lytham fielded 20 of the 179 competitors at Lytham Parkrun. Joe Greenwood and Andy Draper bagged the first two places while Jo Goorney and Gill Draper were the first two women. The third was Emily Balshaw who was the first junior girl. Running in the JW11-14 category, Emily posted an excellent time of 21:23, just three seconds off her personal best.

In the Blackpool Parkrun, Paul Veevers was beaten to second place by just eight seconds, while Felicity Woolohan was the second lady in the Princes Parkrun, Liverpool.
