LSARRC News 12th December 2017


LSARRC at Longridge 7
Saturday 9th December saw the third fixture of the Mid-Lancashire cross country series.  Runners knew this was going to be a difficult day given the icy weather conditions.  However, the senior men’s team of, Christopher McCarthy, Joe Greenwood, Andy Draper, Paul Veevers, Neil Tate and Graham Webster secured an excellent 6th position overall.  Out of 230 runners McCarthy and Greenwood finished in the first 30 runners.  Greenwood pushed McCarthy all the way and only 2 seconds separated them.

Full Results: Christopher McCarthy in 40:38 for 24th, Joe Greenwood 40:40 for 26th, Andrew Draper in 42:28 for 44th, Paul Veevers in 42:56 for 48th, Neil Tate in 44:49 for 68th, Graham Webster in 48:38 for 120th, Terry Hellings in 50:12 for 156th, Mark Hughes in 54:53 for 206th and Greg Oulton in 1:05:08 for 226th.

In the Senior Men’s (Vets) over 40 team, LSARRC secured 16th place with Webster, Hellings, Hughes and Oulton.  Ninth place went to the Senior Men’s (Vets) ove4r 50 team which consisted of, Webster, Hellings and Oulton.

In the Senior Ladies race the club was represented by 6 runners, the first team of Catherine Carrdus, Kirsten Burnett, and Julia Rolfe finished 16th overall.  The second team of Alexandra Everest, Pamela Hardman, and Dawn Lock came 27th.  Catherine Carrdus had a fantastic race, in difficult running conditions to come 16th overall.  LSARRC came 12th in the Ladies over 35 team, 5th in the over 45 category the team came 5th and the team of Rolfe, Hardman and Lock came 2nd in the over 55 category.

Full Results: Catherine Carrdus ran 23:56 for 16th, Kirsten Burnett in 28:36 for 70th, Julia Rolfe in 29:21 for 77th, Alexandra Everest in 30:24 for 86th, Pamela Hardman in 31:49 for 105th and Dawn Lock in 47:28 for 135th.
Under 15 girls at Leigh XC
Two under 15 girls represented the club, they were Laura Bremner who the course in 13:39 for 31st, and Lucy Bohannon who ran 15:14 for 42nd.

In the under 13 boys race the sole competitor for Lytham, Morgan Pritchard ran the course in 12:39 to gain 36th spot.  In the girl’s race, Sophie Bohannon and Rebecca Fisher ran for the club. Sophie finished 9th in 8:14 and Rebecca finished in 11:03 for 65th position overall.

There were more juniors in the under 11 races.  In the boys, the team came 10th with Eric Wrigley, Finlay Hughes, and Lewis Bentley who all finished close together.  Full Results:  Eric Wrigley ran 7:27 for 46th, Finlay Hughes ran 7:30 for 48th, Lewis Bentley ran 7:52 for 55th and Jack Greaves 10:28 for 75th.  In the girls race the team of Jessica Ramsden, Amara Thorpe and Leoma Gill came 13th overall.  Full Results:  Jessica Ramsden was first home in 8:05 for 33rd, Amara Thorpe ran 8:25 for 42nd, and Leoma Gill ran the course in 8:56 for 51st.

Not as many club members attended parkruns because of the cross-country fixture at Leigh on the same day, and the difficult running conditions. At the Lytham Hall park run on Saturday 9th December 12 LSARRC members completed the 5k course and 3 runners achieved new personal bests.  First home, with a new personal best was Justin Allitt in a time of 19:09 for 2nd place.  Jennifer Hill ran the course in 21:11 for 9th position overall, and second female spot.  Darran Ames wasn’t far behind her in 10th position in a time of 21:28, and Kev Murray ran 21:55 for 11th.  Other finishers were:  Ian Balshaw who completed the course in 25:32 for 38th position, Christine Walker 27:25 (66th and a new personal best), Laura Byrne 27:41 (71st position), Ruth Bye 28:30 (84th and a new personal best), Robert Parker 29:00 (89th position), Jeremy McCandless 29:03 (90th position), Michelle Sheridan ran 30:16 for (107th position), and Sarah Bagshaw 32:26 (121st position).

Felicity Wolohan completed the Princes parkrun in Liverpool, and achieved a time of 20:22 for the 4th female position and 12th overall.

On Sunday 10th December, the Longridge 7 Xmas pudding race.  The club was very well represented even with the very cold conditions.  A tough, undulating seven mile course over the beautiful Longridge fells, all on roads, but still a great pre-Christmas fun and friendly, fully marshalled event.  Full Results:  Ian Tate 0:51:05, Kevin Murray 0:56:43, Kitty Churchill 0:58:46, Peter Reid 1:0:48, Greg Oulton 1@05:57, Juli Wiseman 1:11:40, Jacqui Murray 1:12:40, Kirsten Burnett 1:17:26, Sylvia Gittins 1:17:29, Michelle Sheridan  1:17:29, Penny Morrison 1:22:08 and Sarah Bagshaw 1:22:31.  Special mention to Gittins who came 1st in FV70 and taking home a bottle of wine for her husband.

Finlay Hughes followed by Jayden Richardson at Park View junior parkrun
Several junior members braved the wintry weather on Sunday and completed the junior parkrun at Park View, in Lytham.  There were 8 Lytham runners, who amazingly secured 2nd,3rd,4th,5th and 6th positions, and 1st female spot, with a new personal best for Jayden Richardson, well done to all.  Full results:  Lewis Bentley 8:27 for 2nd, Eric Wrigley 8:33 for 3rd, Finlay Hughes 8:47 for 4th, Jayden Richardson 8:48 for 5th, Amara Thorpe 9:31 for 6th and 1st female spot, Blair Selbie 10:22 for 11th, Morgan Pritchard 12:17 for 21st and Sophie Tate 15:00 for 31st.
