LSARRC News 26th December 2017

On Boxing Day, several LSARRC runners attempted to atone for their Christmas Day excess in the annual Worden Park 10K in Leyland.  Held in the park and nearby country roads over a muddy and undulating course, there were some excellent performances.  Susan Samme, on excellent form, smashed the FV55 club 10K record with her time of 41:46.  Michelle Sheridan achieved a personal best of with 1:04:51.  Other results were:  Paul Veevers, in 11th overall in 37:12; Felicity Wolohan 41:06; Ian Tate 43:06; Kirsten Burnett 52:06 and Christine Walker 57:09.

The Christmas Cracker 10K was held in Lancaster on Christmas Eve.  This was a small, friendly event with good running conditions over a flat course.  Both Lytham runners went home with prizes as Ross McKelvie took 2nd place in the race with 38:26 while Kirsten Burnett was 4th lady to finish and 1st FV40, finishing in 50:40.

On Saturday 23rd December the Red Nose 5-mile race took place in Blackpool.  Most runners wore festive fancy dress and it had a fun feel with several cross-country touches over the muddy trail route, including several large puddles.  James Buckley was first back for the club in 39:22, followed by Greg Oulton in 47:49 and Kirsten Burnett in 48:52.

Also on Saturday 23rd December many Lytham members completed the 5k parkrun at Lytham Hall.  Andrew Draper was first home overall in a good time of 17:24, he was followed by Christopher McCarthy and Alex Tate who came 4th and 6th respectively.  Catherine Carrdus was first female and 12th overall in 18:37. Amazingly, Lytham ladies secured the first 4 female positions in the parkrun and Brian Porter managed to run a person best time of 24:19.

Full Results:  Andrew Draper 17:44 (1st), Christ McCarthy 18:19 (4th), Alex Tate 18:26 (6th), Catherine Carrdus 19:59 (12th overall, 1st female), Joanna Goorney 20:18 (17th overall, 2nd female), Graham Webster 20:22 (18th), Neil Bayntun-Roberts 20:31 (20th), Felicity Wolohan 20:39 (22nd, 3rd female), Gill Draper 20:46 (24th overall, 4th female), John Graeme Bertenshawe 21:07 (26th), Neil Tate 21:27 (29th), Terry Hellings 21:45 (33rd), and Darran Ames who was the tail walker and finished the course in 48:54.

Several Lytham runners ran other park runs around the country.  Greg Oulton completed the Blackpoll parkrun in a time of 28:28. Mark Hughes travelled to Birkenhead and ran the course in 22:50.  Travelling North, Kevin Murray ran the Dunfermline parkrun in 23:02 and Pamela Binns managed the Brighton parkrun in 31:33.

14 junior Lytham members completed the 2k parkrun at Parkview in Lytham on Christmas Eve, lots of children dressed up in festive outfits and lots of fun was had.  First home was Morgan Pritchard in 7:48, followed by Emily Balshaw for 2nd overall and first female spot.   Lewis Bentley managed 8:35 for 4th, not far behind him was Eric Wrigley in 8:44 for 7th.  Leoma Gill achieved a new personal best of 10:12 as did Rosa Gill.
