Lytham All Stars Report 26/11/18
It has been a busy weekend for the junior squad from Lytham St Annes Road Running Club. Main event of the weekend was the second fixture in The Mid Lancs. Cross Country League where Lytham had 16 athletes. The fixture was incorporated into the British Athletics Cross Challenge held at Sefton Park, Liverpool which acts as a selection race for the British team for the European Cross Country Championships and consequently attracts some of the best athletes in the country.
First race of the day was the under 11 boys where Lytham had 5 representatives. First home for Lytham was Eric Wrigley finishing the 2500m race in a time of 8:01 for 35th position. Lewis Bentley (8:10, 44th), Archie Bellfield (8:15, 49th) and Finlay Hughes (8:23, 59th) were close behind. Curtis Da’Vols in his first race for Lytham finished in 89th in a time of 10:16 with the team finishing in 10th place. The Lytham under 11 girls were also well represented finishing as 13th team. First home for Lytham was Clemmie Tierney in 43rd place with a time of 9:15 just out sprinting team mate Isabel Tuck (9:16, 44th). Also competing for Lytham were Ellie Francis (51st in 9:30), Leoma Gill (59th in 9:47),
Ella Wiseman (67th in 10:52) and Rosa Gill (68th in 11:07). In a very competitive close fought under 13 girls race Sophie Bohannon finished 5th in a time of 12:01 for the 3000m race. Oliver Thomson was Lytham’s only representative in the under 13 boys race and finished 48th in a time of 13::05 for 3000m. Maddy Markham in her first cross country event for the club ran well to finish 14th in 12:16 for the 3000m race. The 3000m under 15 boys was the last race including Lytham juniors. Louis Eunson finished 42nd in 11:49 with Ben Gregson also in his first ever cross country race for the club finishing 59th in 13:02.
Saturday also saw 8 year Max Walker in only his second biathlon competing in the national final of the British Biathlon Championships in Leeds. The extra training Max has been putting with his coaches at Blackpool Aquatics and at Lytham St Annes Road Runners paid off as he achieved huge personal bests in his 50m swim (49.02s) and 400m run (86:21s) taking 17th place overall.
On Sunday two Lytham juniors took part in a 1 mile Fun Run in Moor Park, Preston. Lewis Bentley finished comfortably first in a time of 5m 27s with Ella Wiseman 3rd overall and first female in 6m 47s.
With many Lytham juniors busy elsewhere just 3 Lytham Athletes competed in the Park View junior parkrun. Jayden Richardson finished 2nd 7:59 with James McAfee (32nd in 13:59) and Joshua McAfee (36th in 15:24) also running.
