Halloween record for McKelvie at Heron’s Reach

A be-mulletted, mustachioed, sleeveless plaid shirt adorning Ross McKelvie threw it back to the 80's and a first-place finish for Lytham at the Halloween Heron's Reach 5k on Thursday night.

The race went out fast, but the combination of undulating trail, significant water feature, and darkness saw the competition fall away until just McKelvie and an athlete from Keswick AC remained in contention from the 294 runners taking part.

Waiting until the 4k mark, McKelvie picked up the pace and kicked hard for home taking the win in 19:21 and knocking 31 seconds off the long 5k's course record.
