Juniors impress at Stanley Park athletics meeting.
It was a weekend of personal best performances for Lytham St Anne’s RRC junior athletes starting with the Mid Lancs, Medal Track and Feld meeting at Stanley Park.
Under 13 girl Charlotte Fisher achieved PBs in the 70m hurdles with a time of 14.3s, in the discus with a distance of 13.02m and the high jump with a height of 1.25m good enough for a silver medal. Older sister Rebecca Fisher also performed well picking up a bronze medal in the 75m hurdled with a time of 13.9s and silver in the discus with a distance of 21.55m. Under 15 boy Frankie Ball, in his first outing on the track this season, finished 2nd in his heat of the 200m in a personal best time of 27.6s. Under 15 girl Brogane Murphy finished strongly in the 800m taking 5th place also achieving a personal best time of 2m 39.7s. Under 13 girls Amara Thorpe and Clemmie Tierney both competed in the long jump clearing 3.28m and 3.3m respectively and in the 100m with times of 15.6s and 16.1s. Tierney went on to compete in the 200m finishing in 33.8s. Sisters Rebecca and Charlotte Fisher went on to compete in the Trafford open track and field meeting on Monday. Charlotte improved on all her performances from Saturday smashing her 70m hurdles PB by almost a second to finish in 13.46s, improved her discus PB to 13.321m and her high jump PB to 1,30m picking up a silver medal in the process. Older sister Rebecca Fisher competed in the 75m hurdles finishing in 13.81s and in the discus with a distance of 22.27m good enough for a silver medal.
Just 3 of Lytham’s junior athletes took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun. Archie Belfield was first home for Lytham juniors finishing 64th overall and 1st in his JM10 age group in a time of 24:24. Also representing Lytham juniors were Adhamh Holton 65th in 24:26 and Matthew Holton 119th in 26:45 and 1st in his JM11-14 age group.
7 of Lytham’s juniors ran in the Park View junior parkrun on Sunday. Lytham filled the first 2 places with Jayden Richardson (7:53) and Archie Belfield (PB of 8:01s). Jessica McNiven (13th in 9:40), Evie Alker (22nd in 10:59), Eric Wrigley (30th in 11:56), James McAfee (39th in 12:33) and Joshua McAfee (44th in 13:23)
4 Lytham Runners ran the Golf Ball Fell Race on the evening of 21st August. This was the final race in the brilliant mid-week series put on by Rossendale Harriers. It was a very muddy wet event and the finishers were Daryl Bentley 52:03, Debbie Cooper 01:02:40, Pamela Hardman 01:08:17 and Julia Rolfe 01:10:49.
Lots of Lytham runners attended parkruns, locally and further afield. At the Lytham Hall parkrun first home for the club was Mark Selby, who completed the course in 19:53 for 7th overall. Not far behind in 8th was Mark Selby in 20:06. The first female finisher was Joanna Goorney in 20:12, 9th overall. Gill Draper managed 4th female spot in a time of 21:44. Ian Tate completed the Warrington parkrun in 21:44 for 45th position overall. Darran Ames was a tourist park runner at the Cuerden Valley parkrun completing the course in 23:26 for 25th.
James Buckley travelled further a filed to Weymouth parkrun and managed the course in 23:20 for 117th. Whinlatter Forest parkrun was attended by Kirsten Burnett coming 184th in 37:58, and G Browne travelled to the Lanark Moor parkrun and 24:50 for 11th.

On Saturday afternoon, 3 members of LSARRC made the trip over to Darwen for the Darwen Gala Catherine Dowdall Memorial Fell Race. Disappointingly the The Darwen Gala was cancelled but the actual race was superbly organised by Darwen Running group with great marshalling, a well flagged course, with hot dogs, beer and soft drinks for finishers and a wealth of category and spot prizes. The 4.7 mile course with 928 feet of ascent has most of the climbing in the first 2.5 miles followed by a technical muddy descent added to by the recent very wet weather. Luckily the sun shone all the way round. First home for the club in 7th place and 1st vet 40 was Darryl Bentley in 41.48 closely followed by Joanna Goorney in 8th place, 41:55 and 1st female. Debbie Cooper was 33rd, 4th female and 1st vet 40 in 49:41.

6 Lytham athletes took part in a very windy Fleetwood Half marathon on Sunday. Catherine Carrdus ran well to finish 37th overall and as 1st FV45 in 1:36:40. Also representing Lytham were David Butler 39th in 1:36:58, Susan Hawitt (167th in 1:55:00), Roy Stevens (170th in (1:56:02), Kathy Gaunt (550th in 1:56:02) and Heide Haigh (243rd in 2:06:03).
Lytham athletes were competing at parkruns from the North of Scotland, the West and North of Ireland and the South West of England this weekend. Liz Abbott finished 5th overall and as 2nd female in the Inverness parkrun in 18:47. Meanwhile on the west coast of Ireland Gerry Browne was finishing 25th in 23:46 in the Knocknacarra parkrun while on the North coast Ruth Bye finished 171st at the Eglinton parkrun in 40:20. In the South West of England Maria Tierney finished the Eden Project parkrun in 32:33 for 326th place and Darran Ames was 17th at Shepton Mallet in 21:47. Closer to home 23 Lytham athletes took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun.
Lytham took the first 2 places in the Park View junior parkrun with Jayden Richardson 1st in 7:46 and Archie Belfield 2nd in 8:07. Also flying the Lytham flag were Eric Wrigley (7th in 9:04), Jessica McNiven (11th in 9:34), James McAfee (16th in 10:48), Joe Alker (18th in 10:51), Evie Alker (20th in 10:57) and Joshua McAfee 40th in 13:03.

LSARRC News 13th August 2019
Last Wednesday Melanie Koth of LSARRC, 7th August, completed the capenwray sprint tri, which is a 500m open water swim, 20k bike ride and finish with a 5k run.
It's a tough little evening summer series, the swim was brutal, Koth said she felt like she was in a washing machine, receiving several kicks and being dunked. The bike route was a very rolling course with a couple of tough hills, which was a leg burner.
The run was a straight out and back run along the canal but not great for overtaking people as very narrow path and a lot of runners coming towards you, also with the rain, Koth said it got quite slippy.
Koth finished 85th overall,11th lady, 2nd v45 in a time of 1:18:34.
Our new member Catherine MacLachlan took part in the Aquathlon (500m swim and 5k run)
She finished 10th overall,4th lady and 1st v50 in a time of 54:44.
Sunday saw the city of Preston 5mile and 10mile race in Walmer Bridge. The 5mile, 1 lap race was an English championship race. Lytham had 2 runners taking part.

Louise Cox: 49th overall, 13th lady, 1st v45 in a time of 35:36
The 10 miler was 2 laps of the course and started 10min later with 2 lytham ladies running.
Mel koth: 25th ov, 4th lady and 1st v45 in a diamond standard time 1:10:29
Michelle Chadwick : 26th ov, 5th lady in a time of 1:10:31
Koth was full of a cold and throat infection but managed to have a good run to achieve her last missing diamond standard time. It was great to have Michelle back from injury with another fab run.
In terms of parkrun news, at the Lytham Hall parkrun the first 3 spots went to Lytham runners, Alistair Leivers, Alex Tate and Ross McKelvie, respectively. Joanna Goorney was first female and Pamela Binns was 1st vf 70 plus with a time of 27:50, 8 seconds short of a pb.

First 2 home for Lytham juniors were Oliver Thomson and Morgan Pritchard finishing 20th and 25th in 21:28 and 21:51 respectively and 2nd and 3rd in their JM11-14 age group. Ben Gregson was next back finishing 31st in 22:32. Brother and sister Maddy and Freddie Markham were next home 98th and 101st in 25:35 and 25:42 (a personal best for Freddie). Also representing Lytham were Adhamh Holton (113th in 26:45) and sisters Leoma and Rosa Gill (173rd and 202nd in 29:37 and 30:52).

Freddie Markham in his 2nd parkrun of the weekend finished 5th in 8:43. Junior Report
Saturday saw 4 Lytham juniors make the trip to the 5th fixture in the Mid Lancs. Track and field league held at Litherland Sports Centre. First on the track for Lytham was under 13 girl Clemmie Tierney in the 100 finishing in 15.8s taking 4th place in in division 2. Tierney also finished 4th in division 2 in the 200m with a time of 33.8s and in the long jump with a leap of 3.68m,just 1cm short of her personal best. Under 13 girl Charlotte Fisher was top scorer for Lytham picking up 3 points for 4th place in division 2 in the high jump with a height of 1.25m equalling her personal best. In her 1st ever competition at shot and discus Fisher went on to finish 1st in division 2 for 7 points in both the shot with distance of 4.87m and the discus with 12.28m. Just one point behind Charlotte was older sister under 15 girl Rebecca Fisher who picked up 5 points for 2nd place in the high jump equalling her personal best with a height of 1.35m, 4 points for 3rd in the shot with a distance of 6.37m and 7 points for 1st place in the discus with a distance of 22.12m. Under 13 boy Oliver Thomson decided to drop down from his usual 1500m to the 800m and ran well finishing strongly to take 1st place in division 2 in a time of 2m 43.6s. Thomson also made his debut at long jump clearing 3.36m for 3rd place in division 2.
Just 3 Lytham juniors took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun. Jessica McNiven finished 1st in her JW10 age group in a time of 27m 42s. Also representing Lytham were Adhamh Holton (89th in 25m 48s) and Archie Tate (78th in 25m 12s).

Hardman of LSARRC completes Lakeland 50 for charity
Pamela Hardman competed in the Lakeland 50 on Saturday 27th July 2019. The Lakeland 50 being one of the greatest ultra-trail challenges in Europe, indeed the world, this was a great achievement for Pamela. Run over the second half of the Lakeland 100 Ultra Tour of the Lake District, completing the final 50 miles of the 100 course.
The Lakeland 50 is ‘half of the course’, it’s almost double the distance of a marathon, it’s on rough terrain and there’s approximately 3100m of ascent to deal with. The route started from the Northern end of Ullswater within the grand Dalemain Estate before following the Eastern shore line as far as Howtown. A quick climb and descent followed by a trek along the banks of Haweswater sees you at Mardale Head. The route from that point visits Long Sleddale, Kentmere, Ambleside, Langdale and Tilberthwaite before the final climb and descent to the finish at Coniston. Hardman said It is a truly amazing route and places which are ignored by the masses.
Pamela raised funds for ‘JacobsJoin’.
Pamela commented that the weather never stopped raining making conditions very wet under foot & unstable downhill and had to be taken with caution, luckily the ferns had grown to 4ft so I had something to grab when slipping. The support from the volunteers at the checkpoints were amazing and a special thanks to Rebecca Willetts –my superb support person, thanks to Mark Willet for the encouragement to go and smash it and I promised I would do it for Jacob. The last 3-4miles was a climb up Jacob’s ladder lots of stone steps taking you up and over the fell to Coniston, there I thought of Jacob took a deep breath and went for it. With the medal went around my neck I could not wait to jump in my sleeping bag.
Finish time 16hrs 44 mins - 2hrs 24mins faster than last year, truly chuffed. No I am not having another go in 2020, twice is enough for me.
At the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday 27Th July Alistair Leivers ran the course in 20:55, the first finisher for LSARRC, his time earning him 11th pace overall. 15 seconds later Ross McKelvie crossed the finishing lie in 21:10 for 13th, and hot on his heels in 21:11 junior athlete Sophie Bohannon, finishing 14th overall and first female. Darran Ames was also in the top 20 finishes coming 17th overall in a time of 21:37. Lewis McAfee broke the 22 minutes mark by 6 seconds running the parkrun in 21:54 coming 21st and Gavin Stansfield managing 22:04 for 23rd.

4 runners from the clubs Couch to 5K group also graduated on Saturday at the Lytham Hall parkrun.
Sue Henry of Lytham was a tourist park runner at Richmond Park, Sue completed the course in 35:58 coming 203rd overall and 67th female. The Eden Project parkrun was visited by Julie Wiseman and she was 160th female finisher in a time of 42:29. Junior Laura Byrne completed the Penrith parkrun in under 30 minutes (29:40) and she was rewarded with 54th female spot. Another tourist park runner Rebecca Willetts attended the Keswick parkrun finishing in 28:48, 29th female finisher.
Closer to home Catherine MaClachlan and Jennifer Hill completed the Stanley Park parkrun in 32:01 (50th female) and 32:43 (54th female), respectively. Andrew Draper visited the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun and he managed the course in 22:14t for 13th place overall.
On a very wet Sunday morning Jayden Richardson was first home at the Park View junior parkrun in 7:55 and James McAfee ran the course in 11:10 for 9th.

Club record for Barbara Holmes at the Windmill Half.
On Sunday 21st July Barbara Holmes of Lytham completed the Windmill Half marathon. A fast and flat course around Lytham St Anne’s and Fairhaven Lake. Traffic free and great for runners of all abilities and ages. Holmes was the 1st FV55 with a new club F55 record of 1:46:33:86 and a Personal best time.
It was a tough night at the Interclub race held on Monday 22nd July, as it was very hot and humid however there were some fantastic performances.
The ladies again performed fantastically well, even without Liz Abbott our top performer.
Four Lytham ladies were in the top five which is an exceptional achievement! The ladies also won the ladies v40 category.
Again, we had some of our juniors running, Maddy Markham, Oliver Thomson and Ben who all ran extremely well.
Lots of Lytham runners completed parkruns, 4 were visitors to Heaton parkrun, they were Neil Tate, Julie Wiseman, Michelle Sheridan and Sue Henry.
G Browne completed the Finsbury parkrun in 23:45. Cuerden Valley parkrun was visited by Kirsten Burnett (29:42), Greg Oulton (31:09), and Sylvia Gittins 34:18. Lancaster parkrun was attended by Alistair Leivers coming 4th in 19:40.
Blackpool parkrun was attended by Darran Ames (22:08), Kev Murray (24:05), Mathew Holton (26:53), Jen Trohear (27:40), Rebecca Willetts (28:42), Pamela Binns (29:05 1st FV 70-74 ), Laura Byrne (30:36), and Jacqui Murray (30:36).
Armley parkrun was attended by Stephen Wise of Lytham who completed it in 24:04 coming 38th overall and Maria Tierney travelled to Fleetwood as was the 16th female finisher in 29:49. Storthes Hall parkrun was completed by Joanna Goorney who was the first lady finisher in 23:42.

Again, we had some of our juniors running, Maddy Markham, Oliver Thomson and Ben who all ran extremely well.
Lots of Lytham runners completed parkruns, 4 were visitors to Heaton parkrun, they were Neil Tate, Julie Wiseman, Michelle Sheridan and Sue Henry.
G Browne completed the Finsbury parkrun in 23:45. Cuerden Valley parkrun was visited by Kirsten Burnett (29:42), Greg Oulton (31:09), and Sylvia Gittins 34:18. Lancaster parkrun was attended by Alistair Leivers coming 4th in 19:40.
Blackpool parkrun was attended by Darran Ames (22:08), Kev Murray (24:05), Mathew Holton (26:53), Jen Trohear (27:40), Rebecca Willetts (28:42), Pamela Binns (29:05 1st FV 70-74 ), Laura Byrne (30:36), and Jacqui Murray (30:36).
Armley parkrun was attended by Stephen Wise of Lytham who completed it in 24:04 coming 38th overall and Maria Tierney travelled to Fleetwood as was the 16th female finisher in 29:49. Storthes Hall parkrun was completed by Joanna Goorney who was the first lady finisher in 23:42.

LSARRC News 16th July 2019
7th July ETU Middle Distance European championships in Targu Mures, Romania
After 10 months of hard training, race day for LSARRC athlete Mel Koth finally arrived.
SWIM- 1.2 miles (no wetsuit through warm water temperature 26C), weakest discipline but managed to get through it and actually enjoyed it without struggling.
BIKE- 56miles, beautiful roads (no potholes), very technical and hilly 4 lap course, lots of locals out to support, temperature was rising (34C)
RUN-13.2 miles, finishing the bike downhill in a little village called Sangeorgiu de Padure, it was going on another 4 lap route, this time on foot. The sun still out with the max temperature of 36C, athletes struggling and a lot dropping out. Mel stuck to her plan, keeping it steady and making sure she kept hydrated.
Mel managed to run the 2nd fastest time in her age group (1:38:02) finishing in a time of 5:23:14, and came 8th out of 45 in her age group.
Lytham road runners competed in the annual hilly 4 mile Caldervale supper run. Alex Tate was on top form finishing third (24:20) in a field of 160 runners. Brother Neil Tate was 5 places behind in 8th (25:43) third back for Lytham was Lewis Mcafee in 25th (28.44)

On Sunday sisters Rebecca and Charlotte Fisher travelled to Shropshire for the 133rd Wenlock Olympian Games. The first Wenlock Olympian Games were held in 1850 and are still held every July in Much Wenlock (after which the London Olympics mascot Wenlock was named). Under 15 girl Rebecca picked up a bronze medal in the discus finishing 3rd with a throw of 21:87 and also equalled her personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.35m. In her first ever high jump competition under 13 girl Charlotte cleared 1.25m for 2nd place and a silver medal.
On Wednesday under 17 girl Maddy Markham was Lytham’s only junior athlete in Blackpool’s Race for Life. Markham ran well to finish 4th overall in a time of 44:30.
Maddy Markham was competing again at the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday and ran well to finish 2nd overall, 1st in her JW15-17 age group and as 1st female in a time of 19:53. Ben Gregson, returning from injury and in his 1st parkrun for 6 weeks finished 17th overall and 1st in his JM15-17 age group in a time of 21:54. Also representing Lytham were brothers Adhamh and Matthew Holton finishing 24th and 117th in 22:20 and 27:54 respectively and James McAfee 194th in 33:06. On
