LSARRC News 24th September 2019

Gold for junior Max Walker at the North West Biathle series.

Junior Max Walker made it a quadruple, winning the 4th race in the North West Bialthle series, an incredible achievement.

Under 11 boy Max Walker took part in the 4th race in the North West Biathle series.  The event consists of a 400m run, a 50m swim followed by another 400m run.  Walker comfortably took 1st place and has now won all four races in the series. It was the turn of Lytham’s youngest athletes to shine last weekend.  Under 11 girl Jessica McNiven competed well in the Fleetwood triathlon completing the 400m swim in 4:14, the 4k bike ride in 10:55 and the 1200m run in 5:41 to comfortably take second place.

Other junior news, athletes took part in Saturday’s Lytham Hall parkrun.  Maddy Markham was first home for Lytham’s juniors finishing 9th overall, 1st in her age JW15-17 category and 1st female in 19:45.  Morgan Pritchard ran his best time for over 2 years finishing 17th overall and 1st in his JM11-14 age category in a time of 20:48.  Next home for Lytham was Oscar Holmes finishing 39th and 2nd JM11-14 in 23:01.  Freddie Markham and Rosa Gill both ran personal best times of 25:40 and 30:09 finishing 100th and 194th respectively.  James McAfee finished 243rd in 32:56.  At Park View junior parkrun on Sunday Lytham junior athletes filled 4 of the first 5 places.  Jayden Richardson finished 1st in 7:44 followed by Joe Alker (3rd in 8:38), Freddie Markham (4th in 8:41) and Adam Jackson (5th in 8:43).  James McAfee finished 15th in a new personal best time of 10:39 with Evie Alker 16th in 11:04.

At the Blackpool parkrun Layla Foley impressed running the course in 18:09 for the first female spot, and 3rd overall.  Stephen Wise travelled to Henley-on-Thames parkrun and Joanna Goorney was the first female home at the Storthes Hall parkrun.

LSARRC News 17th September 2019

Success for LSARRC at Lancaster and Fairhaven
Catherine Carrdus at the Power of 5 at Lancaster
Six senior and two junior club members made the journey to Lancaster to take part in the regular Power of 5 event at Salt Ayre race track on Friday evening.  This is a 3.75 lap, 5K course with no tight corners or road crossings and is ideal for anyone striving for a pb.  With near perfect weather conditions for the race the following results were achieved – Ross McKelvie (18:31), Catherine Carradus (18:42) 2nd female, Maddy Markham (20:29), Louise Cox, (21:03) John Bertenshaw, Brogane Murphy (22:16), Sue Hawitt (23:11) pb, Claire Markham (23:22).  The next 2 dates announced for this event are the 26th October and 6th December.

LSARRC at the Fairhaven Flyer 10k
 The Fylde Coast Runners 2nd Fairhaven Flyer 10K was well attended by Lytham runners on Sunday morning, fantastic ‘Spitfire’ medals being awarded to all that completed the course.  Setting off from the model Spitfire at Fairhaven Lake the route took the competitors down towards and around Lytham windmill and then back up to just beyond AKS school returning to the lake for the finish line.  There were several successes from the Lytham contingent with Neil Tate 1st male V40, Sue Hawitt 1st female V55, Juli Wiseman 1st female V60.  The event was well attended with 325 runners, an additional 80 compared to last year’s inaugural event.  The following times were recorded – Neil Tate (39:39), Darran Ames (43:34), Gerry Browne (46:51), Kev Murray (48:04), Sue Hawitt (49:23), Jason Sheridan (50:13), Claire Markham (50:19), Vicki Richardson (56:31), Jacqui Murray (59:19), Laura Byrne (1:00:17), Juli Wiseman (1:04:12), Sue Henry (1:05:33), Michelle Sheridan (1:07:15), Sarah Bagshaw (1:17:09).


Lytham Hall parkrun not taking place didn’t stop LSARRC club runners from doing another parkrun.  Lots of club members attended Stanley Park parkrun at Blackpool.  Ross McKelvie was 2nd in 18:32, and Jonathon Ladd was 5th in 19:56.  Gill Draper ran well to be the 2nd female finisher in 21:54.  Other finishers included Claire Markham 25:45, Peter Thomson 25:50, Maria Tierney 29:12, Robert Parker 29:46, Adrian Sargent 29:53.

In form Liz Abbott was the first female to finish the Preston parkrun in 18:15 coming 5th overall.  Jonathon Tuck completed the course in 19:12 for 8th overall and Michelle Chadwick was 2nd female in 20:39.  Pamela Binns completed the Brighton parkrun and G Browne travelled to Lancaster.  Kev Murray, Claire England and Jacqui Murray were closer to home and completed the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun. 

Several club members travelled to Kew Woods parkrun, Neil Tate was 4th overall in 19:42.  Other finishers were Jen Trohear, Greg Oulton, Michelle Sheridan, Julie Wiseman and Sue Henry.

Junior News
LSARRC juniors Maddy Markham and Brogane Murphy both ran at the Power of 5K race series on Friday night at Salt Ayre Sports centre, Morcombe. Markham was in 17th place, 2nd in her age group.  in a time of 20:29, Murphy was in 28th place and 3rd in har age group in a time of 20:29.

Maddy went on to run Blackpool parkrun on Saturday morning finishing in 27th place and 4th female  in a time of 22:13, five other LSARRC juniors also ran, Oliver Thompson 35th 22:48; Adhamh Holton 55th 23:59; Freddie Markham 94th 25:44; Matthew Holton 106th 26:13 and James McAfee 204th 30:27.

Also, on Saturday was Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC Open Meeting at Stanley Park.
Under 11 Jessica McNiven came 3rd in her heat for 80m in a time of 13.6, and 11th in 600m in 2:16.7.
U13 Amara Thorpe also came 3rd in her heat of 100m in a time of 14.9, 2nd in her heat for 200m in 31.6. and then went on to jump a PB of 3.71 in Long Jump.
U15 Sophie Bohannon came 2nd in 1500m in a time of 5:09.4
U13 Charlotte Fisher came 4th in 70m hurdles 14.3
U9 Archie Belfield won 600m in 2:04.8

Park View junior parkrun saw seven LSARRC juniors running on Sunday morning; Jayden Richardson 1st 07:45; Archie Belfield 3rd 08:14; Finlay Hughes 4th 08:32; Freddie Markham 5th 08:43; Bobby Hastwell 6th 08:53; Roman Holmes 13th 10:11 and Evie Alker 20th 10:48
Sunday also saw Rebecca Fisher competing at Wigan Athletics and securing a Bronze Medal in discuss with a throw of 21.70m.

LSARRC News 10th September 2019

Local running club shortlisted for Community Club of the year.
LSARRC's nomination for Community Club of the year has made it to the shortlist for this year’s Fylde Sports Awards, as have club members Terry Hellings for Coach of the Year, Greg Oulton for Volunteer of the Year and Bill & Dawn Lock for the Lifetime Achievers award.

The awards will be presented at the Glendower Hotel, St Anne’s on Friday 8th November 2019.

Over the weekend, Angela Bremner ran The Great North Run, her first ever half marathon, finishing just inside her 2h 20 target with a time of 2h 19m 24s in 21498th position from the 43000 finishers.  Sue Hawitt and Kathy Gaunt of Lytham also completed the Great North Run.  Sue Hawitt managed the course in1:50:30 new PB and in Kathy Gaunt 1:54:09.

Sue Hawitt said the conditions were good for running although a bit on the hot side for some, however there was plenty of water and showers out on the course.  The crowd were amazing and lived the whole route from Newcastle to South Shields.  57,000 runners took part in the iconic race it was very busy but the atmosphere was amazing . Sue and Kathy ran for Crohn’s and Colitis UK raising over £800.00 for the charity 

Pamela Binns ran the Wirral 1/2 marathon yesterday ( 8th September)  Her results were 2nd FV65+, time was 2:10:16.

Lots of Lytham runners completed parkruns around the country.  At the Lytham Hall park run Alistair Leivers was 1st overall with a new pb of 17:49. Second spot went to Neil Tate who ran 18:43, Andrew Draper was 10th in 20:21.  Gill Draper was 2nd female home in 21:18 and Darran Ames was 25th in 21:51.  James Buckley (23:37), Kev Murray (23:54) and Dan Gregson (24:03) coming 51st, 58th and 64th respectively.  Other finishers were Hannah McCandless, Matthew Holton, Peter Thomson, Freddie Markham, Claire Markham, Claire Markham, Greg Oulton, Rebecca Willetts, Adrian Sargent, Elizabeth Canavan, Jeremy McCandless, Robert Parker, Jacqui Murray, Laura Byrne, Sue Henry, Michelle Sheridan and James McAfee.

Lewis McAfee ran the Worsley Woods parkrun in 22:00, the Brockenhurst parkrun was completed by G Browne and the Keswick parkrun was attended by Jennifer Hill. Further a field at the Jersey parkrun Stephen Wise completed the course in under 25 minutes and closer to home at the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun Clare England Kirsten Burnett attended.

Junior News
The final fixture in the Inter Club road race league took place at Worden Park on Wednesday 4th Sept and a trio of Lytham St Anne’s RRC 15-year-old junior athletes took part.  First home for Lytham’s juniors was Oliver McIntyre finishing the 4.1 miles course in 27:01 for 70th place overall and as 3rd junior male.  Maddy Markham ran well to finish 98th in 28:26 and as 3rd junior female.  McIntyre and Markham both made the Lytham open team in 7th and 10th place respectively helping the team into 5th place.  Markham was also part of Lytham’s winning female team.  Also representing Lytham was Ben Gregson who, returning to fitness, ran well to finish 140th in 30:32.

 

The Lancashire County Road Relay Championships were held as part of the combined North West Counties Relays at Edge Hill University on Sunday and Lytham’s juniors fielded teams in the under 11 and under 13 boys’ races.  First race of the day was the under 11 boys and Jayden Richardson ran the first leg for Lytham completing the 1500m course in 7:39 and finishing as the 5th fastest Lancashire athletes in the under 11 category.  Adam Jackson (8:47) and Max Walker (8:39) completed Lytham’s under 11 boys team bringing them home as 5th Lancashire team missing out on 4ht place due to an unfortunate marshalling error.  Lytham’s under 13 boys team were led off by Oliver Thomson who finished the 2.8k course in 11:44, followed by Finlay Hughes (12:05) and Eric Wrigley (12:40) bringing the team home as 6th in the Lancashire Championships.

7 of Lytham’s juniors ran in the 5k Lytham Hall parkrun with 15 year old Maddy Markham first of Lytham’s juniors to finish in 20:41 for 14th place overall and as 1st female and first in her JW11-15 age category.  Also representing Lytham’s juniors were Ben Gregson (18th in 21:17), Adhamh Holton (31st in 22:37), Morgan Pritchard (24th in 21:45), Matthew Holton (82nd in 25:34), Freddie Markham (110th in 26:52) and James McAfee (227th in 33:24).

First home for Lytham in Sunday’s junior parkrun was Archie Belfield finishing 1st for the 2nd consecutive week in a time of 8:01 for the 2k run.  Finishing 3rd and 5th respectively were Joe Alker (8:39) and Freddie Markham (8:49).  Also representing Lytham were Jessica McNiven (9th in 9:43), Evie Allker (18th in 11:01) and brothers James and Joshua McAfee finishing 34th in 12:21 and 36th in 12:35 respectively.

LSARRC News 3rd September 2019

Lytham ladies Joanna Goorney and Mel Koth impress over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, 4 members of LSARRC crossed the border into Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire for the Blackshaw Head Fete Fell Race to be greeted by a cold wind and rain.  Luckily by the start of the race, the main downpour had stopped although runners were treated to a couple shorter showers along the route.  The 8.9km course with 274m of ascent heads over to the trig point on Standing Stone Hill on Heptonstall Moor finishing back in the fete field. First home for the club was Joanna Goorney in 26th place, 3rd female and 1st FV50 in 47:08, Darryl Bentley was 36th in 49:56, Debbie Cooper was 69th in 57:49 and Greg Oulton was 101st in 71:21.

GoldenBall 10 miler

Over the weekend The Golden Ball 10 miler a flat fast course through a network of paths and track in Lancaster, took place.  Conditions were good, it was dry partly cloudy with very little wind. 106 runners completed.  Mel Koth finished 2nd Lady, 22nd overall and 1st F Vet 45 with a time of 1:11.01.  Kathy Gaunt ran a superb race for 48th overall in 1:21:26 and Sue Hawitt was 51st overall in 1:21:48, knocking an amazing 3 minutes of her previous best time.

On Saturday lots of Lytham runners completed parkruns around the country.  The highlights at the Lytham Hall parkrun were Alistair Leivers was 2nd overall, first back for the club in a great new personal best tie of 18:10.  Alex Tate also got a pb of 18:59.  6th and 7th sport went to Neil Tate, and Jonathon Mark Ladd respectively, with Mark also getting a personal best time of 19:53.  Pamela Binn was 1st vf 70-74 in 28:06.  Paul Veevers was first home at the Crosby parkrun, Julie Wiseman visited the Belton House parkrun, closer to home Ruth Bye and Claire England completed the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun.

Three of Lytham’s junior athletes took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun.  First home for Lytham juniors was 12 year old Sophie Bohannon finishing 12th overall, 1st in her JW11-14 age group and also 1st female in a time of 20:47.  Brogane Murphy finished as 3rd in JW11-14 age group in a time of 23:39.  Also representing Lytham were Leoma Gill out sprinting her mum to finish 132nd in 29:29 and James McAfee (198th in 32:52).  Lytham St Anne’s RRC were represented by 8 of their junior athletes at Park View junior parkrun.  Archie Belfield ran a personal best time for the 2nd consecutive week finishing 1st in a time of 7:49.  Also achieving a personal best time was Adam Jackson finishing 5th in 8:34.  Also representing Lytham were Bobby Hastwell (8th in 9:17), Jessica McNiven (11th in 9@25), Finlay Hughes (15th in 10:14), Evie Alker (24th in 11:02), James McAfee in his 2nd parkrun of the weekend (25th in 11:02) and Joshua McAfee (50th in 13:25).
