Andy Unsworth runs well at the Liverpool marathon.
LSARRC at the Liverpool Marathon
Several runners went to Liverpool on Sunday 20th May for the vibrant and well-organised Rock ‘n’ Roll events, which follow an interesting although sometimes hilly route through the city and its parks before the final stretch along the Mersey. The heat added to the challenge. Russ Chew and Juli Wiseman both ran the half marathon, with Russ finishing in 1:50:11 and Juli beating her personal best with 2:24:44. In the full marathon, Andy Unsworth was delighted to get a time 8 minutes under the good for age time for London, finishing in 55th place out of 3234 competitors with 3:07:18, first back for the club. Neil Tate was 121st in 3:19:44, followed by Tom Howarth in 3:23:17(153rd), Paul Veevers 3:33:36 (278th), and Kirsten Burnett in 4:42:49 (1950th).

Jayden Richardson
On Sunday 20th May it was the junior and mini Manchester Run and the Manchester 10k. At the junior race (2k long) Lytham was represented by Jessica Ramsden, Amara Thorpe and Eric Wrigley.

At the mini race (1500m) we had Jayden Richardson, he won the race in just over 5min, Sebastien Koth-Wragg ran a personal best time, knocking off a minute of last years’ time and Emily Wrigley. Unfortunately, at the time of writing there are no official results confirming times and positions for the juniors.

Senior, Melanie Koth ran the 10k in 44:17, for 557th overall, 4th V40 and 31st lady.  A minute silence was held in memory of last year’s Manchester Arena bombing. Sir Mo Farah ran an impressive race to win the 10K.

Melanie Koth described the hot conditions as unbearable, with a 1pm start the sun was very high and hot. The 1st Kilometre wasn’t too bad as it was in the shade of the city centre until you turned to the dual carriageway leafing to the old Trafford stadium. It felt like running into a high temp oven. Support was great with lots of bands playing on route, but water stations had only warm water available.

Also, on Sunday was the St Anne’s triathlon, 3 Lytham members competed well, Barbara Holmes, Alex Tate and Mike Toft.  Graham Webster, Greg Oulton, and Gavin Stanfield helped marshal the event.

As usual several club runners completed parkruns around the country.  At the Lytham parkrun.  Andrew Draper ran the course and managed a personal best time for 1st position.  Joe Greenwood finished 3rd and Catherine Carrdus was the first female.
