Terry Hellings and Graham Webster travelled to London to participate in the Vitality Masters Mile on Sunday 27th May. The event for runners aged 35 or over has been organised in cooperation with the British master’s Athletics Federation, which is responsible for the encouragement and organisation of athletics for master’s athletes in the UK.
There was one race and results were ranked into five-year age groups for men and women, offering the opportunity for master’s athletes to challenge the best runners in the UK in their age group over the classic mile distance.
The one-mile course was a one lap circuit with approx. 250 masters taking part at 1pm in hot /humid conditions. Graham Webster completed the mile in 5mins'59secs.a season best picking up a bronze medal for 3vet over 65.
On Wednensday evening at the Wesham Summer 10k Susan Samme ran exceptionally well to set a new club record of 42:46 FV55. Michelle Sheridan ran a personal best of 65:15, with the support of Kirsten Burnett. Andrew Draper was first home for the club, coming 11th in 35:39. Alex Tate and Paul Veevers were 28th and 30th respectively.

Melanie Koth and Greg Oulton ran the Catforth 5k, on Saturday evening. With every entry Alan Taylor the organiser gave a pound towards the “Jacobs join” charity Ronald McDonald’s House Manchester. It was a very warm evening with quite some strong wind, with a field of over 80 runners. The course was flat and fast and everyone who finished was rewarded with a goodie bag full of chocolates, a banana and a medal. Every runner also received a pie and pint which was warmly welcomed. Melanie Koth finished in 21:22, was 24th overall, 3rd lady and 1st V40. Greg Oulton finished in 26:03 for 54th overall. Neil Tate was 41st in 39:59.
Ross McKelvie ran the 315 5k in Lancaster on Saturday night in balmy conditions along the River Lune. With the leaders well out in front, McKelvie led a chase pack of Lancaster University runners through half way before pulling away in the third kilometre. Ben Francis of Lancaster University would come back and challenge again, but the determined Scotsman picked it up again over the last 600m to earn third place on the podium and finish in 18.19
Also, on Saturday 26th May 5 Lytham runners attended the Blackpool 10 miler. The race took place along the coastline between Blackpool and Bispham. The course was quite undulating and very hot sunny conditions with quite strong head wind. There was great support from spectators and some impressive running from club members.

Kevin Murray and Jacqui Murray ran the Edinburgh Half Marathon on Sunday. Kev Murray got a half marathon pb 1.40.17, and Jacqui Murray ran 2.05.25 in cold cloudy conditions with a great flat course from the Edinburgh University to the town of Musselburgh.
As usual several Lytham members completed parkruns around the country.
At the Lytham Hall Park parkrun on Saturday 26th May 16 Lytham members completed the course. First home for Lytham was Neil Tate in 19:18 for 4th place followed by Gill Draper 30mseconds later in 19:48, for 8th position overall and 2nd female spot with a new personal best time. Pamela Hardman also gained a new personal best time, running the 5k course in 25:27.

Further afield at the Pennington Flash parkrun Ian Tate completed the course in 21:38 for 20th position. Paul Veevers was 4th at the Blackpool parkrun, he managed the course in 18:35. At the Clitheroe Castle parkrun John Graeme Bertenshaw was 18th in 22:13.
Over the weekend Heidi Haigh completed an Ironman challenge in Lanzarote in 15 hours 4 seconds. Haigh described this as a brutal course with significant elevation and wind. The run section felt like a sauna, reported Haigh. This is the first full distance abroad Haigh has completed ad the 3rd ironman completed within this year.

At the Hyndburn Track and Filed completion junior Frankie Ball (under 13) continues to impress with a second place in the 800m in 2:32:70.
At the Lytham junior parkrun on Sunday Jayden Richardson was first with a new personal best time of 7:40. Finlay Hughes was 4th in 8:04, Clemmie Tierney achieved another pb in 8:35, closely followed by Oliver Thomson in 8:40. Billy Breakell and Reef Breakell was 11th and 14th with Reef getting a new pb of 9:12. Leoma Gill also got a pb of 9:39 and Ella Wiseman ran 10:08. Blair Selbie finished 25th, Rosa Gill 34th, and Sophie Tate 51st.
