LSARRC News 2nd July 2019

LSARRC ladies shine at the inter-club series.
Last Wednesday was the Thornton Interclub race, and LSARRC competitors didn’t disappoint.  A 5-mile measured race which starts opposite Norbreck Castle on the inner promenade and heads south all the way to Glynn Square, where runners turned to the lower promenade back north. At the boat angling club, turned up back to the inner promenade north to the finish. It was a very warm humid night.

The ladies had a cracking race and they managed to be back on top spot.  They finished 1st ladies’ team and first vet 40 ladies’ team. Our junior Maddy Markham raced for the first time in the series and did very well, she finished 9th lady in 34:46 and was 4th counter for the ladies’ team.

Liz Abbott was first lady home for Lytham coming, and Joe Greenwood was first male home. Mel Koth had a very good run too, finishing 4th lady, 1st vet lady in 32:36 which is a 1min 10sec PB.

On Saturday 29th June Heidi Haigh took part in the Lakeland Trails Ultra 100km. Starting at midnight from Ambleside the route took in 5 mountain passes across the central Lake District, including over 3100m of elevation/descent. Once the sun has risen the day became increasingly warmer and more humid, adding to what was an already challenging event. Haigh completed the event 85th out of the 140 starters, in a commendable time of 21hr 12mins 56s.

Also, at the weekend, Lytham runners ventured to Southport on Sunday to take part in the 10k and Half Marathon, the races were attended by over 2000 runners.  It was a well organised event with a traffic free route due to closed roads allowing runners to run through the heart of this famous seaside resort.  Live music/bands played at the start and finish of the races.  The weather was dry but, on the turn, back it was very windy which was a bit of a challenge. Runners received a medal and t shirt.

Half Marathon times: Thomas Howarth 1:27:50 position 58, Lewis McAfee 1:53:29 position 546 and Susan Hawitt 1:53:41 position 551.  10 K times were as follows: Kathy Gaunt 53:03 position 132, Juli Wiseman 1:03:59 position 345 Michelle Sheridan  and 1:14:30 position 501.

At the Lytham Hall parkrun Joe Greenwood was first home for the club in 17:16 for 2nd position overall.  Liz Abbott was 1st female and 3rd overall with a time of 17:44 (pb).  Alistair Leivers, Ross McKelvie and Mark Selby were 5th, 6th, and 8th the times being 19:30, 19:31 and 19:52.  Joanna Goorney was 4th female in 20:54, Dan Gregson ran 22:46 for 39th.  Other results:Gill Draper 22:52 (41st, 7th female), Stephen Wise 22:59 (44th), Claire Markham 24:11 (58th), Peter Thomson 26:01 (86th pb), Jen Trohear 26:35 (94th), Adrian Sargent 27:10 (103rd), Jennifer Hill 27:18 (103rd), Greg Oulton 27:49 (118th), Bob Clough 28:10 (125th), Jeremy McCandless 28:29 (130th), Pamela Binns 28:32 (133rd), Mathew Holton 28:50 (136th), James McAfee 29:15, Lewis McAfee 29:15 (145th), Sylvia Gittins 29:37 (149th pb), Karen Lanigan 29:51 (154th), Maria Tierney 30:39 (170th), Jacqui Murray 31:48 (187th), Jack Greaves 32:42 (197th), Darran Ames 33:39 (218th), Sue Henry 33:44 (220th), Julie Wiseman 42:13 (226th), and Michelle Sheridan 34:15 (227th), and Sarah Bagshaw 39:47 (260th).

Kirsten Burnett was the sole LSARRC who attended the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun, Kirsten managed to complete the course in 57:22 for 32nd female spot.

Junior News
Lytham junior athletes were out in force in the Fylde Schools Track and Field Championships and competed with considerable success with 5 Fylde Schools Champions.  Maddy Markham finished 1st in the under 17 1500m to become Fylde schools champion. Under 14 Sophie Bohannon had a busy afternoon finishing 5th in the 200m in 29.5s, helping her relay team into 4th place and then in her preferred event comfortably taking the Fylde Schools Championship finishing  1st in the 1500m in a time of 5:07.  Rebecca Fisher claimed 2 Fylde School championships winning the 75m hurdles in 13.1s and the discus with a distance of 22.05m.  14-year-old Brogane Murphy produced an excellent sprint finish to finish 1st in her heat of the 800m in 2:40 and 2nd overall missing out on 1st place by less than a second.  Also representing Lytham junior girls were Amara Thorpe who finished 1st in her heat of the 150m and 2nd in the long jump with a personal best performance of 3.66m and helped her relay team into 2nd place.  Olivia Bielec finished 2nd in her heat of the 100m, ran a personal best of 2:37 in the 800m and helped her team into 4th place in the relay.

Several of Lytham’s junior boys were also competing.  Under 15 boys Frankie Ball and Jeremy Noblett both competed in the 300m with Ball comfortably winning his heat and finishing 4th overall and Noblett also comfortably winning his heat and finishing as Fylde Schools Champion in an impressive time of 41.1s.  Under 13 boys James Andrews, Morgan Pritchard and Arran Miller all competed in the 1500m finishing 4th in 5:33, 6th in 5:378 and 7th in 5:47 respectively.  

7 Lytham juniors took part in the Lytham Hall parkrun and  1st home for Lytham juniors was 13-year-old Sophie Bohannon finishing 11th overall in 20:15 and 1st in her J11-14 age category.  Oliver Thomson 14th in 20:22 and Maddy Markham 21st in 21:05 both finished 1st in their age JM11-14 and JW11-15 age categories.  Also representing Lytham junior were Brogane Murphy (46th in 23:08) and brothers Adhamh and Matthew Holton finishing 45th and 136th in 23:07 and 28:50 respectively.

10 Lytham juniors took part in the Park View junior parkrun.  Jayden Richardson celebrated his 10th birthday in style comfortably finishing 1st.  Also representing Lytham were Archie Belfield (3rd in 8:10), Bobby Hastwell (6th in 8:34), Freddie Markham (12th in 9:09), Joe Alker (18th in 9:50), Leoma Gill (21st in 10:02), Roman Holmes (22nd in 10:04), Evie Alker (26th in 10:36), Rosa Gill (27th in 10:38), James McAfee (46th in 12:24) and Joshua McAfee (55th in 12:55).
