Lytham St Annes Ladies at Inter-Club

Lytham St Annes Road Runners hosted the 2nd race of the 2014 Inter Club Series on Thursday night.  Conditions were perfect for this 5 mile race which starts and finishes by St Annes swimming pool and heads out for a loop around Fairhaven Lake.  The race attracted 216 runners with LSARR having 26 runners and nearly as many marshalls around the course.  Rob Affleck of Preston Harriers was the first man home in 25:52 whilst Joanna Goorney from the host club was the first lady in 31:06 and 35th place overall.  The evening was finished off by the host club providing a superb buffet for all the runners at its headquarters at Lytham YMCA.

Fiona Geldard at St Annes Triathlon

It was the St Annes Triathlon on Sunday and Fiona Geldard made her debut at the 3 stage event thoroughly enjoying the experience  She completed the swim in 13:14, bike in 43:56 and run in 27:30 finishing in 247th place and in a total time of 1:24:40.

The Great Manchester Run through the streets in Manchester city centre attracted thousands of runners despite the heat and strong winds. Simon Denye, starting in the fast paced club runners just behind the elites and in his first race since the London marathon completed the 10km course in 37:07 in 132nd place while Mel Koth ran 45:47 for 1538th place.

2 LSARR runners ventured north for the undulating but beautifully scenic Kirkby Stephen 10k.  Hosted by the friendly Howgill Harriers, the experience was enhanced by the cake and tea at the finish.  Despite the heat, hayfever and flies, Pam Hardman had a good run to finish 35th in 55:33 followed by Rebecca Willetts, hindered by injuries, in 1:06:49 and 50th place.

More local, was the Worden Park 10k in Leyland . Peter Cruse finished 15th in 39:48 while Greg Oulton was 112th in 53:21 suffering in the heat.  There were 207 finishers.
