LSARRC News 12th September 2017

On Wednesday, the final race in the summer Inter Club Series took place at Worden Park, Leyland.  On a cool and windy autumnal evening Lytham St Anne’s Road Runners Ladies team yet again excelled by winning their race thereby the whole series by a good margin.

Catherine Carrdus, Michelle Hook, Jenny Hill and Mel Koth were all top ten ladies finishers on the night with Kathy Gaunt making up the winning team.

Other notable team results were the vets 60s coming third again while the whole team came fourth over the season, up two places on last year from seven clubs competing. Individually, Joe Greenwood and Paul Veevers gave excellent performances on the night finishing fourth and ninth respectively.

The North-West Counties Road Relays were this year held on Saturday in Stanley Park, and Lytham were represented by eleven teams in total.  These were four senior men’s teams, one senior women’s, and a club record six junior teams.

The day started early with the girls’ and boys’ Under 11 races, each athlete running 1.6k. In the girls, Clemmie Tierney was the equal 8th fastest in the whole race with a time of 7:12. Jessica Ramsden, running the “B” leg wasn’t far behind with 7:16. Amara Thorpe ran the “C” leg in 7:47 for the team to come 22nd overall. Charlotte Thomson (7:19) and Ella Wiseman (8:09) ran as an incomplete team.

For the boys, Charlie Ormerod was equal 7th in the race in 6:23. Finlay Hughes (6:37) and Eric Wrigley (6:47) made up the Lytham “A” team that finished 11th. Billy Breakell (7:24), Lewis Bentley (6:25) and 9th overall, and Jack Greaves (7:28) were the “B” team in 21st.

Lytham’s performance of the day was from Sophie Bohannon who was 2nd overall in the U13 girls, running her 3.2k in 12:49. Sydney Ramsden (15:06) and
Rebecca Fisher (16:37) were the others in the team that finished 31st.

For the U13 boys Morgan Pritchard (13:06), Jake Balshaw (16:12) and Francis Morrison (16:03) made up the team that came 34th.

In the 3.2k U15 girls Lytham “A”, consisting of Laura Bremner (14:03), Lucy Bohannon (15:54) and Emily Balshaw (13:47) finished 19th. The “B” team were
Jennifer Hayes (16:56), Rebecca Tate (20:21) and Alicia Middlehurst (13:16) in 23rd.

There was some confusion in the senior women’s race with some competitors unable to follow the course as they should have. However, Lytham’s Mel Koth (24:12), Jenny Aldworth (22:26) and Alex Everest (25:21) did well to finish 28th from 51 teams, and 7th in Lancashire.

The senior men fielded three teams of four with each competitor running 6.6k. The “A” team of Joe Greenwood (22:46), Paul Veevers (23:56), Andy Draper (22:48) and Tom Howarth (25:03) were 24th overall, and 10th in Lancashire.

The “B” and “C” teams were 54th and 74th respectively with Ross McKelvie (23:44), Neil Tate (24:21), Ian Tate (27:15), Graham Webster (27:59), Terry Hellings (29:00), Richard Storey (31:20), Nigel Simpkin (33:12), and Greg Oulton (35:59).

Also on Saturday 15 LSARRC members completed the Lytham Hall Park run, Neil Tate ran impressively securing first position in a time of 18:06, just short of a pb.    Catherine Carrudus was the first female home in 19:40, 4th overall, and 2 runners achieved the milestone of completing their 50th run.

Other times:  Mark Selby (20:51), Neil Bayntun-Roberts (21:02, 50th run), Darran Ames (21:46, 50th run), G Browne (22:59), James Buckley (24:35), Stephen Tate (26:49), Laura Byrne (28:32), Ruth Bye (28:51), Graham Young (29:44), David Rigby (31:37), Sarah Bradshaw (32:35), Michelle Sheridan (32:43) and Sarah Bagshaw (33:10).

At the Blackpool parkrun 3 Lytham runners achieved pb’s.  Mark Hughes achieved a pb of 21:40 and Graham Webster completed his 50th run in 21:52. Susan Samme also achieved a pb of 22:32, as did Ian Balshaw 26:51.

Julia Rolfe was the sole Lytham runner at Preston parkrun and she completed the course in 25:44.  Olivia Johnson Allen ran the Frimley Lodge parkrun in a time of 28:44 and Felicity Wolohan attended the Princes parkrun in Liverpool and achieved a time of 25:44.

At the Simplyhealth Great North Run held on 10th September 3 Lytham runners took part.  Michelle Hook completed the course in a fast time of 01:31:12 and knocked off 3 minutes of her pb and came 1025.  Kirsten Burnett achieved a time of 02:11:17 and Jacqueline Murray in 02:12:16.

On Sunday Emily Balshaw and Eric Wrigley attended the Open Medal Meeting (athletics) at Stanley Park Blackpool.  Eric ran very well and came 6th in the 600 metre race in a time of 2:10, and Emily Balshaw dominated the 800m race and secured first position in a time of 2:38.

Also on Sunday Morgan Pritchard led the way for LSARRC, and secured first place at the Lytham Parkview junior park run.  Morgan completed the course in 7:43.  Amara Thorpe was the first girl home, and ran the course in 9:32.  Other results included:  Jayden Richardson (10:35), Jack Greaves (12:00), Eric Wrigley (12:45 support runner for Emily Wrigley) and Sophie Tate (14:01).
