LSARRC News 14th November 2017

LSARRC impress at the Windmill 10k gaining 2nd, 3rd and 6th position, and lots of new pbs.

On remembrance Sunday, the Windmill 10k took place in Lytham.  The run starts at Fairhaven Lake and goes on the coastal front of Lytham, the course is flat and fast times can be achieved. This is a popular event in the running calendar and 1256 runners took part. LSARRC was very well represented in the race, lots of new pbs were achieved and special mention must go to Paul Veevers and Neil Tate, who came 2nd and 3rd respectively, Jonathon Tuck who was 1st in the category Male Vet Over 50 and Katherine Gaunt who was 4th in the category Lady Vet Over 50.  Paul Veevers, Neil Tate, Kirsten Burnett, Gill Draper and Ruth Wheatley achieved pb’s.

The Fylde Sports Awards took place on Friday 10th November.  The awards evening is an annual event that recognizes local achievements in sport during the previous year.  Kirsten Burnett was recognized for all her hard work and was jointly awarded Adult Volunteer of the Year.

Saturday 11th November saw the 2nd fixture of The Red Rose Cross Country League.  Normally, the league holds four fixtures each year, usually from October to December and caters for both men and women from 8 years and upwards.  Eric Wrigley ran in the under 11 boys race and managed a good time of 7:47 for the 2k course coming 68th out of 104 runners.

At the Lytham Park Hall parkrun on Saturday 11th November 26 Lytham runners completed the course.  There were some fantastic achievements, Chris McCarthy was first to finish overall in a time of 17:59, followed by Andy Unsworth who came 3rd, and second for the club.  Neil Tate and Justin Allitt finished in the first ten runners, 6th and 8th respectively.  Not to be outdone the women secured the first two sports, Joanna Goorney was first female in 20:07, coming 13th overall, and Jennifer Hill was second female in 21:16, coming 20th overall. Two Lytham runners achieved new pb’s, Darran Ames ran the course in 21:14 and Michelle Sheridan finished in 30:15, well done to both.  Also, 11 Lytham runners completed their 50th parkrun on Saturday.

Several lytham runners completed other parkruns around the country.  Felicity W ran the Hackney Marshes parkrun in a time of 19:54 gaining 31st position overall and first female spot.  Roy Stevens completed the Sheffield Halam parkrun in 26:13. At the Beeston parkrun, Neil Bayntun-Roberts came 22nd in 20:47.  More locally, Paul Veevers stormed around the Blackpool parkrun in a time of 17:56 achieving 1st position overall.

On Sunday Ian Tate opted to run the Tatton Half Marathon and completed the course in 1:37:28, overall, he was 140th out of 1139 runners, and 22nd in Male V40 category.

At the junior parkrun at Park View in Lytham, on Sunday, 7 Lytham runners took park.  The juniors were impressive and first and second positions went to Charlie Ormerod and Morgan Pritchard.  Jayden Richardson wasn’t far behind in 4th place.
