LSARRC News 21st August 2018

It was the Fleetwood Half Marathon over the weekend and the Lytham runners didn’t disappoint with Chris McCarthy finishing in 1 hour 19 minutes for second place.

Ross McCelvie finished 20 minutes later in 1 hour 39, followed by first lady for Lytham Catherine Carrdus in 1 hour 45 minutes.  Lewis McCafee gained a new personal best time of 1 hour 54 minutes followed closely by Kathy Gaunt in 1 hour 58 minutes and Sue Hawitt in 1 hour 59 minutes.

Conditions were tough with a strong headwind, but some runners welcomed the cooler conditions due to the rain.

Kathy and Sue ran together experimenting with the Jeff Galloway technique (jeffing) run/walk and both managed to finish in under 2 hours.

Sunday saw Just two of Lytham’s junior athletes make the trip to Warrington for the Terry Davies Memorial open track and field meeting and both representing the club very well.  Under 13 girl Rebecca Fisher continued her successful track season with some excellent performances.  Rebecca first event was the 70m hurdles where in a very competitive field she finished 6th in a personal best time of 13.2s.  Rebecca next event was the shot finishing 4th with a distance of 7.17m making what turned out to be a good decision to leave the competition after just two attempts to compete in the high jump where she achieved another personal best performance with a height of 1.35m for first place.

Under 13 boy Frankie Ball made a successful return to the track with a personal best of 13.9s and second place in his heat of the 100m.  Frankie also ran in the 800m finishing exceptionally quickly making up about 30 metres in the home straight to move from fourth to second and finishing in a time of 2m 36s.

Pamela Hardman of Lytham ran the Longford Marathon on Sunday 19th August in County Longford Ireland. The weather was warm but cloudy, a nice friendly race of only 180 people, half of the course was on the busy roads and half through country lanes. Finishers received a lovely medal, t-shirt and the best goody bag ever.

Hardman’s time was disappointing but maybe a bit ambitious after only 3 weeks after the Lakeland 50. Hardman finished in5hr 14.52.

At the parkruns around the country there were some fine performances by the club.  Andrew Draper was first home at Lytham, junior Oliver Thomson gained a personal best time and it was a first for 2 of our juniors, the McAffe brothers.  Joanna Goorney was 1st female to finish, coming 7th overall.
