On Sunday it was the club’s annual Green Drive Five and Junior mile. The five-mile event was once again sold out well in advance and was a great occasion with 403 finishers. Bob Clough, in his final stint as Race Director, was relived the rain held off- after last year’s Storm Brian caused some worries- and all his plans came together like clockwork. The race is popular with clubs and non- affiliated runners alike and is also used as the Lancashire AA 5 mile championship race, It’s a great distance for those newer to running, who saw some Lytham Hall parkrun participants take the step to a more competitive running event with the assurance that it would be just as supportive and friendly. Rob Danson of Wesham Road Runners held onto his crown to take the win in 25:41, closet followed by Altringham’s Dave Norman (26:00) and Simon Croft from Red Rose Runners in 27:09. Emily Japp from Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde AC took the Ladies win, the previous course (also set by her) with 27:47 and doubling her prize money. Second lady was Carla Davies of Red Rose (28:58) and third was Lytham’s own Catherine Carrdus (31:30). Red Rose was the biggest team represented and win both the male and female team prize.
