A club record for Susan Samme at the Wesham 10k.

On Saturday 25th November 2017, the Wesham 10K took place.  The Wesham 10k is one of the North West’s oldest continually running 10k road races.  Held every November, the race is slightly undulating, running around the lanes of Salwick and Lea Town.  13 Lytham runners completed the course.  Congratulations to Susan Samme who broke the FV50 club record at 10k and ran the course in a fantastic time of 41:45. 

Full results are as follows:  Susan Samme 41:45 (56th), Darran Ames 43:06 (69th), Adrian Sargent 47:11 (121st), Kathy Gaunt 49:06 (140th), Ruth Wheatley 51:56 (183rd), Robert Parker 56:06 (258th), Laura Byrne 57:01 (272nd), Jacquie Murray 58:33 (286th), Ruth Bye 59:25 (297th), Pamela Binns 1:02:12 (342th), Penny Morrison 1:04:58 (358th), Michelle Sheridan 1:05:50 (365th), Sarah Bagshaw 1:07:53 (380th).  There were 420 runners in all.

On the same day the British Athletics Cross Challenge took place, which also included, within the race, the 2nd fixture of the Mid Lancs cross country league.  The venue was Sefton Park, Liverpool.  The weather was cold and breezy with hail and rain showers making the course quite muddy in many places, however there were some great performances.  LSARRC fielded 15 men each running 9.8km to create two teams. Mike Toft was first home for Lytham, followed by Joe Greenwood and Christopher McCarthy.  Terry Hellings came 5th in the age category V60 and Graham Webster achieved first position in the V65 category.  In the team results Lythams first team (of Toft, Greenwood, McCarthy, Tate, Veevers, and Howarth) came 10th overall which is a fantastic achievement and Lytham B team (of Tuck, Bertenshaw, Hellings, Webster, Tate, and Stanfield) came 26th.  In the senior men, over 40 category the Lytham Team (of Hellings, Webster, Tate and Stanfield) came 11th and in the over 50 category the Lytham Team (of Hellings, Webster and Oulton) came 8th.

The results for the Mid Lanc were as follows:  Mike Toft 37:35 (42nd), Joe Greenwood 38:15 (51st), Christopher McCarthy 38:51 (66th), Neil Tate 41:08 (248th), Paul Veevers 41:20 (101st), Thomas Howarth 41:46 (107th), Jonathon Tuck 44:48 (175th), John Bertenshaw 47:12 (219th), Terry Hellings 47:27 (223rd), Graham Webster 47:36 (230th), Ian Tate 48:25 (236th), Gavin Stanfield 49:46 (254th), Chris Bowker 52:54 (281st), Mark Hughes 55:48 (294th), and Greg Oulton 61:33 (303rd).

Catherine Carrdus

In the senior ladies’ race LSARRC had 5 runners.  First home was Catherine Carrdus in 34:51 coming 23rd and 4th in the category L45.  Joanna Goorney followed shortly in 35:13, 26th overall.  Melanie Koth ran the course in 39:25, she was the 12th lady in the category L35, and 58th overall.  Julia Rolfe managed the course in 44:35, 109th overall and 8th L55.  Finally Dawn Lock cane 3rd in the L65 category in a time of 1:11:10, gaining 171st spot overall.

In the team results, the Ladies team came 9th  and consisted of Carrdus, Goorney and Koth.  In the Ladies over 35 the category the Lytham team came 8th (Carrdus, Koth and Rolfe), and in the V45 category the Lytham cohort were 9th and the team consisted of Carrdus, Rolfe and Lock.

Laura Bremner

The Under 15 girls team came 9th overall, with Laura Bremner coming 35th, in 13:54, followed by Lucy Bohannon 59th, in 16:12 and Holly Anderson 62nd overall, in a time of 25:50. 

Morgan Pritchard was the sole Lytham junior in the under 13 race, and he achieved a time of 13:51 coming 52nd out of 72 runners.  Lytham had 3 runners in the under 13 girl race.  Sophie Bohannon ran a great race and came 10th overall in 12:40, followed by Brogan Murphy in 13:35, 31st, and Sydney Ramsden came 71st in 15:01.  The team came 10th overall.

In the Mid Lancs under 11 boy’s category Lytham fielded 4 junior runners.  First home was Eric Wrigley in a time of 8:30, 40th overall.  Lewis Bentley finished 2nd for the club in 8:43, gaining 48th place.  Finlay Hughes was 64th in 9:14 and Jack Greaves finished the course in 11:11. The under 11 team were 12th overall with Wrigley, Bentley and Hughes.
Brogan Murphy

In the under 11 girls Jessica Ramsden ran superbly and came 28th in 9:35, followed by Clemmie Tierney in 9:52, 35th.  Shortly behind was Isabel Tuck in a time of 10:08, coming 43rd.  Leoma Gill ran the course in 10:37 and came 55th.  The team secured 11th position overall.  Well done to all the runners who represented the club.

As usual 5k parkruns took place around the country and several Lytham runners took part.  At the Lytham Hall parkrun there were 4 runners.  First home for Lytham was Kev Murray in 22:17 coming 18th overall.  Next was James Buckley in 24:41, this was his 50th parkrun.  Then it was Jeremy McCandless in 30:24 which was also his 50th run and Graham Young in 30:55. Jennifer Hill ran the Mile End parkrun in a time of 21:10 finishing 3rd female.  Neil Bayntun-Roberts travelled to Barnstaple and finished the parkrun in 21:13. The Princes parkrun was attended by Felicity Wolohan who was 4th female in a time of 22:59.  Further afield Roy Stevens ran the Faelled parkrun in Copenhagen in a time of 24:12 in frosty and sunny conditions.

On Sunday 26th November, there was a Run Preston 5k race and a Best Fun run for juniors. In the 5k road race Paul Veevers of Lytham came 3rd in17:55.21.  Charlie Ormerod was 22nd in 20:44.10, Sophie Bohannon 24th in 20:49.43, followed by Morgan Pritchard 29th, in 21:26.16, Emily Balshaw was 40th in 22:48.94, Laura Bremner 41st in 22:52.91, Brogane Murphy 43rd in 23:10.13, Lee Morrison was 47th in 23:47.62, Lucy Bohannon 59th in 25:37.64, Christine Walker 76th in 28:17.83, followed by Ian Balshaw 77th in 28:18.10, and Jake Balshaw 78th in 28:47.57.   There were several juniors who completed the Best Fun Run, and they didn’t disappoint.  Eric Wrigley came second, a great achievement in 05:08.50, followed by first girl home Clemmie Tierney in 05:40.10, 5th overall.  Jessica Ramsden wasn’t far behind (6th) in 05:59.92.  Ella Wiseman completed the course in 06:37.41 coming 13th.

The Park View junior parkrun was cancelled this week due to the course flooding.
