Lytham Ladies impress at the mid-Lancashire Cross Country in Sefton.

On Saturday 24th November 2018 the British Athletics Cross Challenge took place, which also included, within the race, the 2nd fixture of the mid-Lancashire cross country league.    The venue was Sefton Park, Liverpool.  The weather was perfect, dry and not too cold not like in previous years.  Several senior and junior athletes from Lytham took part.

One of the highlights was the performance of the Ladies team who manged to secure 4th team place overall, 1st team in the V35 category and 1st V45.  Lytham lady, Liz Abbot led the way finishing 6th overall (2nd L35) in a marvellous time of 29:01.  Catherine Carrdus was 16th overall and 2nd L45 in 32:32. Joanna Goorney also impressed with a tie of 33:30 and claimed 3rd overall spot in the L45 category.  Melanie Koth ran well and finished the course in 34:31 coming 5th in her respective age category and Claire Markham completed the Lytham Ladies team, running the course in 41:28.  Full Results:6th LizAbbotL35/2  29:01 (first XC), 16th Catherine carrdus L45/2 32:32, 21st Joanna Goorney L45/3 33:30, 28th Melanie Koth  L45/5. 34:31 and 106th Claire Markham L45/27. 41:28.

Eight men represented Lytham in the senior division.  Joe Greenwood was the first to finish, coming 53rd in 34:48.  Next was Thomas Howarth in 36:54 for 100th overall position, next 101st was Neil Tate 3 seconds behind Howarth in 36:57.  Other Results included:  Jonathon Tuck 37:16 (110th), Graham Webster 42:18 (228th), Terry Hellings 43:24, Mark Hughes 45:16 27snd, and Greg Oulton 53:30 for 316th overall position.

Lytham was also well represented in the junior section.  The highlights were Sophie Bohannon coming 5th in the girls under 13 race in a time of 12:01 and Maddy Markham came 14th in 12:16 (first xc) .  9girls represented the club in the under 11 girls race they were Clemmie Tierney in 9:15 for 43rd, Isabel Tuck 44th in 9:16, Elli Francis 9.30 for 51st and Leoma Gill in 9:47 for 51st, 59th position went to Leoma Gill in 9:47, Ella Wiseman 67th in 10:52 and Rosa Gill 68th in 11:07.

In the under 11 boys the results were 35th Eric Wrigley 8:01,44th Lewis Bentley 8.10,49th Archie Belfield 8:15 59th, Finlay Hughes 8:23 89th and Curtis Da’Volls 10:16 (first xc).

U13 boys the only representative was 48th Oliver Thomson 13:05.  In the under 15 boys race Louis Eunson came 42nd in 11:49 and Ben Gregson was 59th in 13:02 which was his first cross country race.

Also, on Saturday 24th November, thirteen club members took the short trip over to Wesham to join a total of 491 participants in one of the North West’s oldest continually running 10k road races.  In more pleasant conditions than previous years, the slightly undulating course took runners around the lanes of Salwick and Lea Town.  First back for the club was Andy Unsworth in 37:32 (p14 and 4th V45), followed by Darran Ames in 42:41 (p59 and 6th V40) who set a new 27s PB around the course.  James Hartley was third junior male back 44:07 (p79).

At the Lytham Hall parkrun there weren’t as many Lytham club members completing the course because of the cross-country fixtures and a local 1oK race however Gavin Stanfield and David Dunn gained new personal best performances.  Neil Bayntun-Roberts was the first to finish for 4th position overall in 20:23 for 4th.  Gavin Stanfield was 7th in 21:19 and David Dunn 15th in 22:16. Other results included:  Susan Hawitt 24:20 40th, Jason Sheridan 26:37 69th, Pamela Binns 29:16 97th, Sylvia Gittins 30:26 106th, Sue Henry 30:33 107th, Paula McCandless 30:54 112th, Jeremy McCandless 30:55 113th, Robert Parker 34:57 131st and Julie Wiseman 31:51 for 160th.

Julia Rolfe of Lytham attended at the Cassiobury parkrun and ran the course in 26:37 and at the Knocknacarra parkrun G Browne ran the course in 23:24. Ian Tate travelled to the Pennington Flash parkrun and was 15th in 22:08.

Sunday saw the junior parkrun take place in Lytham.  Jayden Richardson was first home in 7:59 for 2nd, and James and Joshua McAfee also completed the course.
