Liz Abbott smashes 12-year-old record.

LSARR were represented by 10 members at the 37th Preston 10-mile road race on Sunday 18th November.  Almost perfect, albeit a slightly chilly running conditions greeted the 508 runners for the fast and flat 2-lap course around Hutton.  Andy Draper was first club runner back in 14th position with a time of 57:32. Liz Abbott was second back for the club in 28th, completing the course in 59:30.  By doing so, Abbott broke a long-standing club record, knocking 1:17 off Sue Samme’s 12-year-old record, set at the same race back in 2006.  Furthermore, Abbot was first lady back, Lancashire Champion and Lancashire FV35 Champion.  Further down the field, Darran Ames was paced round by Ross McKelvie to achieve a sub-70min PB.  Results:  P14 Andrew Draper (57:32), P28 Liz Abbot (59:30), P40 Joe Greenwood (1:00:54),P53Thomas Howarth (1:02:44), P64 Alex Tate (1:03:50),P102 Catherine Carrdus (1:07:09),P146 Darran Ames (1:09:58), P147 Ross McKelvie (1:09:58),P222 Chris Bowker (1:17:03),P370 Greg Oulton (1:29:19).

Saturday saw the 35th running of the very popular Tour of Pendle Fell Race. The route starts in Barley and takes a meandering route over and around Pendle Hill managing to cover 16.8 miles and 4800 feet of ascent.  Although mainly blue skies, a strong easterly wind added to the fun in the tough second half.  Joanna Goorney and Debbie Cooper were both in action. Joanna was 258th in 3:33:22 and Debbie was 347th in 3:51:00.

On Sunday Elfyn Gittins ran the Conway Half Marathon, completing the course in 2:25:56, coming 3rd in the over 70 category.  Also, Heidi Haigh Ran 2 days of hell of a hill marathon. 1st lady finisher both days 5.12 Wednesday time 4.49 Sunday. 4000 ft of climbing each day.

As usual several LSARRC members completed parkruns, with Lytham Hall parkrun not going ahead several runners attended the Blackpool parkrun at Stanley Park.  Ross McKelvie was first home for the club, and second overall in 20:45.  Maddy Markham was the 1st female, 7th overall in 20:45, Neil Tate 19th in 21:45.  Other Results:  Gavin Stanfield 21:54 (24th), Lewis McAffee 23:51 (53rd), Jennifer Hill 23:58 (66th), Stephen Tate 24:21 (66th), Claire Markham 24:40 (77th), Adrian Sargent 25:54 (95th), Greg Oulton 26:19 (106th), Bob Clough 29:11 (144th), Jeremy McCandless 29:59 (162nd).

At the Fleetwood parkrun Terry Hellings was 11th in 22:03, Kev Murray was next in 23:09, Jacqui Murray 26:34 and Laura Byrne 27:45.  Rebecca Willetts ran the Lancaster parkrun in just over 30 minutes.  Alistair Leivers ran the Lancaster parkrun in an impressive 19:19 for 13th position.

Three LSARRC members ran the Preston parkrun Kirsten Burnett (25:27), Julie Wiseman (30:47) and Michelle Sheridan (36:12).

Six juniors completed the junior parkrun which is held on Sunday in Lytham.  Jayden Richardson was first home in 7:48 for first position overall.  Archie Belfield was 3rd in 8:31.  Next was Clemmie Tierney in 9:24 for 7th overall and 1st female.  Other finishes included: Leoma Gill, James and Joshua McAffee.
