LSARRC News 13th November 2018

Toft breaks 10K club record at Arley Hall.

At the Arley Hall 10K in Cheshire on Saturday Mike Toft shaved 4 seconds off the previous Senior Men’s 10K record, finishing in 33:45.  Graham Webster also impressed with a finish time of 43:11, the first V65, coming 205th overall out of 1347 runners.  Other runners who attended the event were Catherine Carrudus and Tom Howarth.

The Windmill 10k took place on Sunday, a local race starting with a moving 2-minute silence beside Lytham Windmill. The race is a fast and flat one and with great weather conditions saw some excellent performances from club runners.

Andrew Draper ran exceptionally well to finish 5th in a time of 35:18:17. Paul Veevers wasn’t far behind in 13th in a time of 38:11:66.  Neil Tate of Lytham came 28th in 40:42:92.  James Hartley ran 44:00:86 for 72nd place and Alan Elstone was 99th in 45:01:83.  James Hartley is the first junior member to complete the 10k course.

Other results included:  Mark Hughes (46:09:33, 122nd), Gerard Browne (46:21:38, 131st), Susan Hawitt (49:32:08, 22nd – first female to finish of Lytham and a new personal best time), Kathy Gaunt (50:22:59, 254th), Kirsten Burnett (50:28:54), Gill Draper (50:45:82, 273rd), Jason Sheridan (52:19:81, 273rd), Laura Byrne (56:25:01, 511th and a new pb), Ruth Wheatley (56:28:32, 514th), Louise De Gier Flood (59:39:02, 667th), Olivia Allen (1:28:45, 700th), Julie Wiseman (1:42:98, 744th), Graham Young (1:04:21, 842nd), Michelle Sheridan (1:12:05, 1061st), and Nicola Wiseman (1:14:20, 1103rd).

At the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday there were several runners who completed the course.  Andy Unsworth was first to finish for Lytham, coming 3rd overall in a time of 18:59.  Chris McCarthy from Lytham managed 5th overall in 19:27 followed by junior Maddy Markham who was second female, and 7th overall in 20:16.  Ross McKelvie was 8th in 20:17, followed by Ben Gregson (20:39, 10th), and Andrew Draper (20:42, 11th).  Ben Gregson, Oliver Thomson and Stephen Tate all gained new personal best times. Darran Ames was 16th, 1st VM40 in 21:01.

Other runners included:  James Buckley (21:50, 23rd), junior Oliver Thomson (21:56, 25th), Neil Tate (21:56, 26th), Kev Murray (22:54, 35th), Stephen Tate (23:25, 40th), G Browne (23:41, 47th), Finlay Hughes (24:39, 70th), Mark Hughes (24:41, 72nd), Claire Markham (24:57, 77th), Adrian Sargent (26:05, 92nd), Greg Oulton (26:31, 100th), Jacqui Murray (26:46, 107th), Pamela Binns (28:41, 140th), Jeremy McCandless (29:18, 146th), Bob Clough (29:24, 147th), Sarah Bradshaw (32:51, 179th), Claire England (32:52, 180th), Maria Tierney (35:26, 202nd), Jason Sheridan (36:57, 208th), Pamela Hardman (37:42, 211th), Michelle Sheridan (38:30, 215th), Daniella Neggiora (46:03, 223rd), Ruth Bye (46:06, 225th), Laura Byrne (01:10:29, 227th), and Julie Wiseman (1:10:30, 228th).

Paul Veevers and Rae Willougby made the short journey to Stanley Park to complete the parkrun.  Veevers ran the course in 18:49 for 3rd place.   Terry Hellings attended the Princes parkrun and came 74th in 22:35. Joanna Goorney was a tourist park runner at Hyndburn and she managed to be the first female finisher in 22:40.  Finally Alistair Leivers completed the Coventry parkrun in 18:49 for 5th.
On Sunday a number of junior completed the Lytham parkrun.  Jayden Richardson finished first in 8:02.  Archie Belfiled was 3rd in 8:43, Finlay Hughes was 4th in 8:49.  Leoma Gill ran the course in 9:53 for 10th and sister Rosa Gill managed 11:26 for 23rd.  Other runners for Lytham included Sophie Tate, James McAfee, and Joshua McAfee.

On a different note the club held its annual ballot for the London Marathon and Sue Hawitt is representing the club in 2019.  There were 7 members who met the criteria and Lauren Burnett did the draw which was recorded live at the club for members to watch.
